| can anyone help? what are our rights as consumers? my husband bought a pair of learher shoes for work at 89tl from Sayal in Girne. not overly expensive but not cheap either. not long after the sole came halfway unstuck and we took them back they just sent them for sticking and again the same thing happend. they just stuck them again and now the same has happened yet again. but the shop are refusing to do anything. we are now left with a useless pair of shoes. i think it is our right as a customer to have an exchange, it's not our fault the shoe is defective but i know this isn't the uk and want to know what to do next. surely that can't be it and i just throw a virtually new pair of shoes away? wages here are not that great that you can keep buying every month new shoes. |

| I had the same problem with a purchase in the south, they basically said that as I had not returned it within 4 weeks' of purchase they would not do anything. I kicked up such a fuss in the store about my rights, that eventually they said that they would exchange the faulty part but not the whole item. I settled for that as it was just too much aggravation to take it any further. Also, took back a bottle of Mayo to a local store here because it was off on opening. They after checking the till receipt accepted that the item was not fit for human consumption replaced it without any fuss. I guess if you keep going back often enough, eventually they will get the message that you are not going to go away until you get some sort of customer satisfaction. Good luck! |

| thanks for that but i'd like to know if we have somewhere to go to complain or i can quote to them something about a relevant law. it's so simple in the uk we have the trading standards and consumer bodies etc, but i don't know what there is to protect the customer here. i've also took back off items to the market shops and normally they exchange without a problem. but he won't budge on the shoes. |

| I don't hold out much luck to be honest. Even brand new electrical goods that don't work FIRST TIME, are sometimes carted off for REPAIR rather than exchange!!!! My friend bought a cheap vacuum cleaner then couldn't get the dust bags anywhere!!! Was told (2 mths after buying) that they don't make them anymore!!! |

| Hi Denise I feel sorry for your husband and his shoes, I bought a hairdryer from a shop in Girne which was quite expensive for the product but after a few uses it over heated and you couldn't hold the handle, but when I went back to the shop after only 2 weeks Guess what it had closed down so I am stuck with a hair dryer which is dangerous to use, so I had to throw it away and had to purchase a new one, so be careful as shops close down here so quick that you dont get a chance to return items. | And they moan about people shopping in the South, little wonder if the quality and after sales service is non existent in the North. It might not be that much better in the South but something better is better than nothing at all. |

| On a positive note.... We purchased an Led rechargable lamp from 1001 shop in Girne. Got home, plugged it in and heard a pop before we smell the burning. Noticed it had a small crack in the bulb cover. Took it and the receipt back a couple of days later, explained the problem and believe it or not......exchanged....with a smile! |

| thanks dutchcrusader i'll keep that number for future reference. after reading piggy's reply i took myself and shoes back to the shop prepared for battle but i stood my ground and ended up with a replacement pair of shoes. so was well pleased. it does pay to keep bothering and sayal shoes (Foxy lady) are well established so suppose didn't want negative words getting round. thanks everyone.
