Hi, could anybody please give me some advice on having a baby in North Cyprus? I have just found out I am pregnant, after moving here permanently. Could anybody recommend any hospitals/clinics/doctor's etc, for ante natal care? Also, could anyone advise on the nationality of the new born with 2 English parents? Any answers to any of these questions would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I know where you are coming from.

Had my 3rd baby here in TRNC. my doctor was DR Meyrem she has a clınıc near the courts and speaks very good englısh. She does all your antınatal care and any other you may need.

She wıll also be there at the bırth whether cesarıan or natural she uses the Tunçevik hostpıtal on the Bellapaıs road.

I also asked the same questıon whether the baby wıll be 'Brıtısh' was told yes. My son was born 2 years ago and has a brıtısh passport.

Dr Meyrems no: (0392) 816 0336

Ps the hostpıtals are clean andthe hygıene ıs better then back home. The service you get from the doctors ıs very good.

True, there are excellent clinics in the TRNC my daughter was born in a private Lefkosa hospital and immediately transfered to the state hospital for observation as the birth was a bit traumatic, they both did a great job as did my wife in giving birth and after care.

With regards to nationality under the TRNC "consitution" any baby born in the TRNC to alien parents will have the right to automatic citizenship, however when we received the birth certificate it was stamped "vatandas Yok" or "No Citizenship" although my daughter has a British passport and its not a big deal, they should apply the laws of the consituition at all times. So I can now invisage that my daughter born in the TRNC, will be educated within the system and then at the age of 18 will have to aply for a Muhtars letter and temporary residency permit!

Agree with all the above re medical care but please note that Caesarian Section is the norm here - over 80% of births are conducted in this way in the TRNC.
