Well sky have reduced them to £49:99 but you have to take a 12 month contract. You can get one for around £65 on ebay.

Dear Coffer re msg 1

1/ HD made by pace are all being replaced.. don't know WHAT I'll get - so best avoid one for now !

2/ Samsungs are new to the market, and an unknown quantity - WHY do you want to be a Guinea Pig ? ;)

3/ You HAVE to consider the box AND getting the SKY card to work with the box

IF you buy one on ebay SKY MAY refuse to connect you - if:

a) the box is has an unpaid subscription balance

b) it is less than 12 months old - ALL HD boxes are subsidised - they MUST be plugged into a UK / IRL tel number and KEPT connected

units older than 12 months - SKY will normally allow you to transfer you SKY card account to the new box.

Lastly - beware - SKY are going to start changing over SKY cards - not a problem IF you're in the UK - the cards will come out not working and you have to get them turned on.... it's going to be CHAOS.. :(

SKY has been on about issuing new viewing cards for at last 5 years, is it for real THIS time?

re msg 6, Geoff

NDS the company who provide the encryption are contracted to change cards every 5 years - it has already been SIX years.

The story goes this delay was to screw up the Dream box card sharing crowd.

Re Msg #7: Thanks for that mmmmmmmm, I wondered what the delay was due to. Mine goes to a UK address (my mother-in-law, who said mothers-in-law are of no use!!??), so should be no problem. SKY HD IS a problem, for reasons already stated by others in this thread. However, you can receive Ch4 HD OK on a Freesat HD receiver.

Because of th Sky HD deal for £49-00, there is a waiting list of 3 months for a Sky HD box, I know because I'm waiting.

Seems from what I've read the tuner on the new HD boxes is much better for fringe viewing Sky.

message 15,

Yes MM, the Samsung HD box is the one the satellite forums are saying has a great tuner and recommended for us poor sods on the fringe of Sky. Apparently their QA systems are better than other suppliers.

Please use my email - as the price depends on the package you want and you'll need the lnb done in Cyprus.. the model is dependent on your dish ! ;)
