Hi, hrh n.a, can you please give us a little info, my wife studied hardressing in Russia, she has her education passports (little red books) and distinction certs, at 36 I suppose you would say she is a late starter in the business. She does not have extensive salon experience although she is currently employed in a Salon in Russia, she speaks Russian, fairly competent English and some Turkish. Having recently purchased a place in TRNC do you think there is scope for LEGAL employment in TRNC for her?? in your opinion would a Salon take her on legally or is the market flooded with hairdressers. Will her Russian hairdressing certs be accepted in TRNC Just want to get a realistic opinion.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give us.

I believe Nulten Oral runs a hairdressing business with trainess to gain nvq's etc, maybe, just maybe she could be worth a call. She is UK trained herself with extensive business experience over here.

hi the saints,

i was a teacher in a hairdressing school in the uk years ago.looking at the state of some hair cuts here, i think your wife could teach them a thing or two maybe!

(when i watch russian tv, i always think to myself what nice haircuts and how well groomed the ladies are.)

Thanks everyone,

I really just need to find out if her Russian qualifications will be usable in TRNC or if she should just forget about it when we come over.

She loves hairdressing shame if she had to give it up.

Then it will be worth giving Nulten Oral a ring as she is the one person who will be able to give you advice or point you in right in the direction

Cheers Scooby,

we will try to obtain her contact details and ask for her advice.

we know it is difficult on the island regarding work etc but the move will be easier for my wife if she has at least a glimmer of hope as she is an extremely optomistic person.

Hi the saints -

have posted a respomse for you on a different thread

- i think the best place to start is with the education minister in Nicosia - he will be able to tell you whether your wifes certificates are recognised here and if so give you a local equivalent qualification - that is what i had to get in order to be able to work here as a hairdresser.

i think that is the best place to start ( egetim bakanlagi - excuse the spelling as i have an english keyboard )

hope this if of some help to you

Does your wife freelance? My Mother out next week and wants trim etc. I don't know much about Ladies Hairdressers as I'm old school; short, back and scrape at gents barbers!

A Ladies salon opened and closed within 6 months adjacent to Baseline Computers behind Ezic chicken restaurant last year, whether they left equipment or not, I know not as all windows are covered with newspaper. Take a look when you're back in a few weeks time.
