This issue about her using her wealth and influence is without question controversial, however this child is not a puppy in a pet shop. That i accept is a crude statement.Any comments?

And Kellybelly, what would you prefer? To see another child beg on the streets, or one less? Who happens to be taken in by a celebrity? Her motives are unimportant - bottom line - a child gets a chance of nutrition, education and opportunities.

It doesn't matter who or what she is? This child is one less off the streets and will have the chance to a better life. Her motives are null and void.

It's not about Her - it's about the child.

During the childs lifetime Madonna will spend in the region of 5 million dollars in bringing this child up. Wouldn't it have been better to have invested the money in that country and help hundreds of children?

I'm with Bill on this one, I feel it would have been better if she had tried to help a community rather than one child. I feel quite uncomfortable with this, it's as if she is buying a child, in this country she would not be allowed to adopt at her age.

Lilli, to me it's like child trafficking. She's taking the child away from it's culture. It's obscene as far as I'm concerned.

No 1Doyden,

I am one of those sitting on the fence but please note Madonna has already given millions of dollars to this country for aid especially for children. She has and is supporting whole villages with her donations.

However I do think you made a valid point on taking the child from its culture.

Yvonne expresses a valid point by it being the child that is important and the opportunities that will be available to this child that would otherwise continue to live in poverty.

What I can't understand is why it has to be made public, why can't she keep it quiet its not like she needs any publicity! Does she want a pat on the back?

Madonna is a self promoting talentless product of the 21st century..she should leave these children alone, she has no respect for that childs extended family and I agree with No1 ...with her millions she should help all the children ..

No doubt the child will grow up spoilt, like most celebrity kids. Designer clothes, clubbing it every night, drugs, drink, etc etc....

Most African orphans have a member of family who will look after the

child but lack the means to give he/her the material things needed for

healthy life. No doubt the lady means well, but think it better to support

the child within its own community & culture, along with the family.

Taking one away from its origins to a very different, (who is to say better)

world is not the answer. No1Doyen has a good point too.

She is doing this to promote herself so everyone says isn't she wonderful, just like Angelina Jolie..this is what started this, she is in competition with her so see who can adopt the most children...who do these ppl think they are...they destroy marriages and break hearts and treats children as fashion accessories.

There are many children in the USA that need help but no these two must be seen to be 'helping poor little black children', they actually make me quite angry.

It's been said that because of high profile people like Madonna adopting in Africa, it leads to African families abandoning children in the hope that someone famous will come along to help.

I really don't know who Madonna thinks she is. She's messing around with a 'toy boy' 20 years younger than her whilst claiming tohave strong family values.

It's been said that Malawians are Christians and take their faith seriously - it's part of their culture. Madonna follows the obscure Jewish faith of Kabbalah, which clearly isn't a Christian faith.

This whole matter stinks and I truly hope the Judge refuses her adoption rights.

I just want to say how much I agree with the central theme here, which is mainly that it's good to support disadvantaged orphans from poor countries - but adopting a single child and transplanting them into a totally different culture isn't the way to do it.

When I see Madonna doing this, I feel very uneasy, especially when there are members of the little girl's family saying they don't want her to go.

The impression you gain from the UK press is that she is a very controlling person. I wouldn't go as far as saying she's 'snatching children away from their families' but she is starting to appear like one of those evil female characters from a Disney film.

It's hard to escape the idea that she is more interested in 'collecting' then protecting.

(Dear moderator: As a journalist trained in UK libel law, I believe that all of this thread is 'clean'. I don't know Turkish law in detail but I'm hoping the same applies. )
