We were told by Naomi Mehmet that it would go to your family but would take slightly longer if you didnt have a Will. I suggest contact your solicitor otherwise you will end up getting worried when your solicitor can confirm yes or no very quickly.

We were told by our solicitor that as long as we already had a written will we need not do another one in Cyprus. We would just be wasting our money because our British one would be legally binding.

We were told the same as BHW - it will go to your family but it will take longer to sort out the process. Given how long the PTP takes it could be an interesting dynamic ! We put a TRNC will in place in the spring - our advocate put it all in place - including visiting the court to register it. It all took around 1 1/2 hours, cost £100 - but we are now completely sorted for the property between my wife and I, our children and beyond in any eventuality.

Hi all, Sorry to be a spoil sport here but me and my hubbie re-newed our will in the uk about 6 months ago and when we mentioned foreign property this is what we were told: We mentioned that we had a property in cyprus and bulgaria and wanted to include this in our uk will. WE WAS TOLD THAT IN THE UK WILL WE CAN MENTION THAT WE OWN PROPERTY IN THESES COUNTRIES -BUT THATS JUST IT ONLY MENTION IT AS WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE UK WILL IS NOT LEGALLY BINDING TO OUR OVERSEAS PROPERTY AND THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE A WILL OUT IN THE COUNTRIES WHERE YOU HAVE PROPERTY I.E BULGARIA AND CYPRUS!! UK LAW ANDS WILLS DO NOT COVER YOUR INTEREST IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND WHEN CLAIMING ASSETS YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A SOLICITOR IN THE COUNTRY YOU HAVE PURCHASED AND GO THROUGH THE COUNTRIES SYSTEM , PROCEDURES AND WILL FOR THE PROPERTY!!! I am only stipulating what we have been told by our uk lawyer as we asked him for verification at least 3 times on it before our wills were adjusted and re-signed!! So like I said the uk will can only mention you have an asset in another country apart from your uk one -But you cannot claim this asset through your uk will!! Take care-D

Davidoff - agree with you entirely. What we did (and I only got round to it this morning) was take a copy of both our Cyprus Wills and placed them with our English Wills so that should we die then both Wills are together. We also left with our UK solicitor the slips of paper the Kyrenia Court gave us stating where our Wills are lodged there. And I also wrote a letter attached to the Cyprus Wills stating the address of our property in Cyprus because I noticed that in our Cyprus Wills it only states "our estate in Cyprus" so again no-one would know. God I am waffling! Hope you understand it!

Hi BHW, I have not done my cyprus will yet in cyprus but I am hoping to sort it out when I go over in april!! Dont forget to include info aswell if you have opened a bank account so they are aware! Because I get the impression by the term cyprus estate then this will include ANYTHING THAT YOU OWN IN CYPRUS i.e car, bank accounts, furniture and property etc!! Take care-D

Thanks Davidoff that's a good point about bank accounts - although we havent opened one yet and not sure if we will or not. Again I think if we do open a bank account in TRNC I will give our lawyers in the UK the bank details to be held with our UK and Cyprus Wills.

Hi BHW, I f you have bought property in NC and intend hanging onto it or renting it out etc then you will need to open a bank account! as you will need to set up debits or payments for utilities etc and if your renting then payments coming in and going out also in NC! Take care-D

Hi Davidoff - we have our management company paying our bills and we leave them a float and also if we rent it out to friends and family then they give us money direct so I wasnt too sure whether we really needed an account there. We may still do it though as I believe interest rates are good.
