Hi,

Does any one know if we can have TV systems using the internet + sattelite systems. Also can we pick up BFBS TV as I know of it being used by some friends in the south who are not in the forces but pay a yearly subscription. Can any one help. ?

Hi Ex Royal

I believe that there is someone in the South who is able to provide BFBS via satellite - I think he has access to dodgy BFBS cards - totally illegal I would assume.

As an aside, are you ex RM or another service ?? I retired from the Corps in Dec 08.

Hi,

Yes I am a ex Bootneck, JE 14 Squad March 1962. I had been told that it is possible to have a system that works on your TV through the internet, also was told we could get BFBS TV. We have got 1202 broadband connection as we were told that this is what we needed, but the only problem is we can not find out any more details about this system. If it is possible could some one enlighten me, or if not perhaps they could advise me on a legal system. ( If there is one).

Many Thanks,

Ex Royal

Just to let you know that if you go to satcardsharing.com you can get almost all of the channels you want. The plastic policeman will tell you that it is illegal but its upto you if you want it. I have it and it has sky, nova, digiturk, showtime, skyitalia,Art and many more channels all 100% illegal.

Dear Ataturk, re msg 8

I hope you will be keeping us up to date as you lose your illegal card sharing channels.

SKY are issuing new cards - you WILL lose that - Nova, and co will block card sharing decryption via the net / sat and you will learn that :

1/ You must pay the provider - not a pirate - if you want continued viewing

2/ The MoD have had so many complaints about card sharing that when they catch the service person who is sharing BFBS they will lose a lot more than their pension rights.

Thank you for demonstrating the laid back attitude you have to right and wrong - something that is all too prevalent in Cyprus.

STILL - is shows that when it comes to making money - TCs and GCs co-operate really well ;)

Dear ExRoyal, remsg 10

"Ataturk so far you are the only one who has given advise on my request. M can you give me advice on my request, I think you can but so far I have not picked up on it. "

;) Oh, I picked up on it... That's why I had asked if you were interested in legal or illegal services and was waiting for a response !! ;)

The BFBS service - yearly fee - is illegal, of course

The only truly legal services for sat TV on island are Digiturk and Nova Cyprus - as they have the TV rights to charge on island.

One can buy Showtime, SKY, packages - paying legal subscriptions - to receive UK / USA TV content.

Show, Digiturk, Nova only require a 1m - don't settle for less - as 80cm break up more in the rain

SKY requires a well installed 4.2m to get all possible UK TV content - the free ( unencrypted ) BBCs / ITvs of this world.. but with an HD box you can get the sports and movies HD channels- as the signal is much stronger.

(cont) from msg 11

sorry I should say a specialised 1.8m dish is required for the SKY HD channels - somewhat smaller.

Hi M,

Thanks for the reply, sorry for not stating if I wanted a legal or illegal, at the moment I am very confused to where to go and what to do. Do I get one thats not legal ( on reflection they seem to offer a better package but at a risk ) or do I get legal one that does not seem to offer as much, also who are the best people to go to, As you can quess from this, I am very new to the area and its workings.

Thank you.

Hi, re msg 14/16

I think you summed up the situation quite well - pirated tv does offer more for less - at the minute... personally, I'd pay 'em monthly, and then you'd only lose a month..when - as will happen - they start to fail to deliver - what's not theirs TO deliver ...

WHY can't they accept monthly in advance - if they feel their service is long reliable !

YES, I can use fast internet to receive TV content. there's zattoo.com and tvcatchup.com for example.. but you need to show that you are "connected" in the UK.. to show a UK IP... THAT's one of the ways I earn a crust... I supply such a service...

BUT..

even *I* say that satellite is best.. but not all my clients can get satellite :(

Hi M,

Good to read that you supply a service will keep that in mind. You say that satellite is best, so what size dish do you need to receive free to view with a free to view sky card and receiver, also do they supply sky boxes and cards in the North if you want to subscibe to a sky package on a 1.8 dish, if so what sort of price are we looking at. I have read the people bring their receivers and cards over form the UK, is this because they are not available or is it because officialy Sky is not transmitted to Cyprus ?

Hi ExRoyal

To receive FTA ( BBC/ ITV, etc and SKY ) a well installed 4.2m - Jonsa brand - will do the trick .. *I* recommend Iceman - because he has NEVER had a bad report in all the years he has been doing it - there are "pretenders" to his "throne" - who say they're cheaper.. but Iceman imports the dishes and has the best reputation.

SKY Boxes . if they can't help you - I can

I can't quote you as *I* don't supply in the "TRNC"... a site visit is necessary ( siting of dish, etc at each install is unique ) .. I'm sure other members here can advise of their experiences.

Ooops missed ExRoyal's last Q:

YES, you can bring over your box/ card from the UK - but ONLY do it if

1/ the subscription and or box is more than 12 months old

2/ don't try to bring a multi-room box ( £10 / month extra) or you *might* end up paying full price - SKY more often than not insist the Multi-room boxes are kept connected to UK phone lines.

Hi M,

Thanks for your response, lucky you in Paphos in the fact that you need a smaller dish than we do in the North, at first we were having a 4.2 dish, bought a free to view card and a Pace 2600C1 box for the job, but when we got on site and checked the size of it, we think it would ruin not only our villa frontage but also that of my neighbour, any way we were going to screen it off, but on second thoughts I could be selfish and stick one up, no only a joke. So it looks as if I have one redundant card and a box. So we are now looking for a system that would be second best, very interested in using the internet if it was more reliable, so its seems that I will have to go for some sort of sat system.

Cheers for now

I've never lived in Paphos.. too many Brits ;)

Why not put the 4.2m on someone else's land and share it ;)

Exroyal - there are many ways to receive the TV that you want - just Google "slingbox"

mmmmmm - I did notice the " ;) " - but I didn't realise that this made your remark re: "Brits" OK!

In future, I will remember to fully explain my comments so that even YOU can understand first time ;)

Dear Mimomar, re msg 25

Perhaps you missed it - but there have been many threads about slingbox and actual tests carried out - "TRNC"'s internet infrastructure and UK uplink speeds are not a suitable match for slingbox satisfaction... YET

Also, I have been in email contact with ex-Royal and you have the "wrong end of the stick"...

re Paphos : you'll "forgive" me but I'm not going there - figuratively or in reality .. it's just NOT my fav place in CY. It is TOO like home, with the sun

Maybe I did jump the gun

Are you from the North or, South of the border (Cross or Dundalk?)

From your response, I suspect it's the North and if so, an apology is in order

Sorry
