Hi Vikingqueen,

I was in the same position as you a few months ago. after visiting a few shops I found it was it was cheaper just to buy a new printer/scanner. It is nearly the same for all electricial goods in is disposable world we live in.

RE msg 1, vikingqueen > I have a HP 1210 printer/scanner in need of repair? <

===> I've repaired quite a lot of HP's and other printers (I'm interested in the mechanisms, so I do it for free) - I may help you. But it would help if you first describe the problem as good as you can. Often "not working" printers are not ready for the dustbin yet!

PS. The cheap (from 2003, now discontinued) HP 1210 all-in-one is a so-called "throw away printer" when there is a (very) serious problem, so I'm not giving you false hope. But maybe we can get it working again...

You made me think now.... how to describe the problem.. well the Ink cartridge is being blocked by 2 arms which spring up when it is trying to return to start position.

Do I buy a new printer??

RE msg 5, vikingqueen > Do I buy a new printer?? <

===> No, you don't! It's a known behaviour (malfunction) of this 3-in-one printer. I'll be back home this Monday and here's how you can contact me: 0533 864 5433. Don't try to make the printhead move again - just disconnect the electricity cable and don't touch the inside of the printer. Have a nice week end and don't despair!

===> Definitely, ricky. Buying a new one will absolutely - without any doubt - be cheaper (less expensive that is) - than a repair for free. If I have to replace my Girne accountant - I won't call you...

I had the same problem on an HP2110 about 3 months ago.

3 times, over 3 weeks, I managed to get these plastic arms back into the correct position.

After the 2nd time I was low on ink and paid about £35 for the B & Colour cartridges.

3rd time was terminal!

I lost hours of fiddling and days of no printer.

I ended up buying a new printer for £35 with new cartridges and a 12 mth guarantee,..... and £35 of useless cartridges that no-one wanted.

Why do all these HP, & other printers, always use different cartridges?

Obvious really!

Sent the almost new, old ones to a cartridge recycling Charity.

I'm in the 'buy a new printer' camp!

===> I'm not. A well maintained (please note: maintained) printer will serve you for many years without a problem. And any (expensive!) cartridge can be refilled ten to twelve times and work properly.

PS. I remember from a year or so ago this British couple, that had a printer (including the cartridges) in their closed container on a boat from England to Mersin/Famagusta. After six weeks on the boat (60-70 degrees Celsius or more inside the container) the printer was connected to the computer - and didn't work! Yeah, bl**dy bad printers they make nowadays...
