Olive Tree Rescue is dead so the chances of finding a mature one is slim. I believe you can buy saplings from the Forestry dept and for the past few days there has been a big truck parked up by the Catalkoy 'Fez' turning and they have young Olive trees for sale.

Please note that the olive is a very slow growing tree. It takes around 100 years for an olive tree to attain a trunk diameter of around 30 to 40 cm (ie a mature tree).

We had three mature olive trees planted , unfortunately they did not survive . Would the younger ones stand a better chance ?

Who supplied the mature trees?

Do you know why they died?

Olive trees are resilient and they should retake if watered thoroughly for the first six to nine months!

Are you front-line to the sea?

Thats a terrible shame simbas. They probably took 200 years plus to grow and through neglect they died! Someone should have been responsible for watering them! Did this 'agricultural director' not inform you of this?

You can go to jail for 3 years if guilty of killing a fruit tree in Cyprus (unlikely as it is never enforced but it is on the statute books!).

The locals used to believe you can plant them deeper than original and they will find water but this is not true. they can also suffer from crown rot if planted in this old fashioned way.

Please, anyone buying mature olive trees make sure they are planted correctly and watered regularly, especially if planted outside of the winter months. you can find info on the web about this.

Normally! Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays parked on the rough ground to the side of Supreme is a large truck that sells all sorts of trees - including olives - for between 10 and 15 TL each. All over from Turkey but I think he is only coming over for another 10 days and then thats it till next year.
