Hi everyone

I have recently bought an apartment in northern cyprus and i am getting things for it furniture, pots ,pans....etc. But the electric goods seem so expensive in northern cyprus. I was quoted over £700 for a 32" tv. Does anyone know the best place to buy a tv from? Or is it possible to bring one from the uk?

Replies would be greatly appreciated

Offers at Tesco, Asda, Argos, Currys etc 32"+ around £250. Get you vat return receipt (special form to be filled in at store with passport, address Mersin 10 TURKEY) to reclaim 15% at departure airport which will cover any excess weight if charged. I saw them at Tesco home store yesterday and look easy enough to carry and am sure all new TV are multi standard (pal, secam etc.) so will work in TRNC.

Mike78. No problem bringing one from the UK. Make sure you wrap it well and marke it fragile in big black letters.

We are hoping to bring a TV over in our suitcase. Will we have to pay duty at Ercan? If so how much? Is it a % of price paid in UK?

Put it in your case, wrap it up in bubble wrap, lay the screen on a towel, etc. I am 99% sure it will survive!!!

I was stopped at Gecitkale a few years ago and questioned about the contents of a box I had in my possession. I said it was used household goods. No problem at all.

The Samsung shop in Girne centre is quite cheap. I was quoted a price for a 32" samsung lcd that was only £60 more than the uk price !!

They were selling it for $699 US Dollars which worked out at £499 but they said a new tax reductoin of 8% on all televisions was about to come in. So it would have worked out at £462.

The same TV in the UK is £379 plus £20 shipping charge ( well thats the cheapest price I can find for it doing a google price search)

In case anybody is interested the model is:-

Samsung LE32A330 LCD TV 32 inch (82 cm) 16/9, "HD ready", HDMI x2 LCD TV

The guy in the Girne branch doesn't speak very good english but he phones the Lefkosa branch and the guy there tells you all the offers / specifications etc.

Seems one of the cheapest places in TRNC from what I've seen for TVs

The Arcelik shop in the paved area at the centre of town has 32 inch HD ready TV for 950 TL (not the full HD 1080 version).

You may be able to better this elsewhere or by negotiation.

If anyone is in a TV/Electrical shop and notices a 19 in flat screen with integrated DVD player and Ipod dock could they check out the make/model and price please. Not sure if its worth bringing one in a case (I need the space for other stuff) if its only a little more.
