Hi all,

Mini Budget here yesterday. Cigarettes up 25c which probably isn't a bad thing and yes, I'm a smoker but am going to quit (once I've depleted my duty free stash)!

The big surprise was no increase in the price of a pint, or any other tipple for that matter...

Guess the men in pinstripe suits expect us to drown our sorrows!

No change in the price of petrol, but diesel up 5c.

A friend of mine in the office told me today, that when all is said and done, himself and his wife (who, btw, is expecting a baby in June, and have a little girl of 7 years) will be down €1,000 net a month on account of the budget.

I guess sometimes it pays to be single. I've attached a link if anyone is interested in reading the gory details:

Yvonne,

Some of things in the budget were harsh and I am afraid there will be more to come. At least we can escape to Cyprus for a little while and forget all about the 'doom and gloom' roll on the summer

Hey Spider,

it's about a 10 min drive from the Golf Course. Near Esentepe. Looking forward to 2 weeks in the September sun, doing practically nothing except for working on my tan and putting names to faces, and meeting up with a few good friends out there!

Unfortunately some of us are still unable to retire out there just yet :( But on the plus side us non smokers have more money to spend on the booze here to drown our sorrows!

Have a listen to NobNation on the Gerry Ryan show (after the 10am news mon - fri 2fm!) They do a fantastic skit of the Irish politicians and general famous people. The ones they do for the politicians are totally priceless! Lenihan cant count and Biffo has promised his American cousin Barry O'Bama U2 tickets etc etc!!!

It beats the recession news any day

I much prefer Gift Grub on Today FM they have had some classics over the years especially about football who could forget Roy Keane singing to Beckham after he missed the peno or when they would have Bertie or Ronan Keating. You need a laugh in the morning to start your day off. If I was to listen to Nob Nation I would have to listen to Gerry Ryan and he does my head in

Sorry for being so parochial
