PM Soyer has demanded an investigation into ex president rauf denktas and leader of the opposition party dervis eroglu, because of their alleged links with the ergenekon organisation.

do you feel he is seeking to serve the justice system or just clutching at straws because of the forth coming elections?

hi scribes,

my feelings are its all about the forth coming elections and discrediting the other side.

this is not something that new, it has been talked about in the past.

why now is he calling for the investigation?

remember this is a guy who was quoted saying he would welcome gary robb back in the future.

btw thanks for the link!

(i got info from the news then in english from hurriyet.)

RE msg 3, scribes : > old rogue Denktas <

=> Objection! And sustained. One doesn't call one of the founders of TRNC and President - in very hard times - an "old rogue", I think.

RE msg 7, scribes : > Sorry if you are a personal fan and I caused offence, Dutch. <

=> I am. I mean I am a fan and I felt offended (however, no more after msg 7!). Furthermore I'm not blind and I know Mr. President Denktash's reputation is not undisputed in all TRNC circles. But from what I've read about Cyprus' history before and after 1964 I think he's a great TC and deserves respect for most of his brave deeds.

Dear DC, re msg 12

"Mr. President Denktash's reputation is not undisputed in all TRNC circles."

>>>> understatement<<<<<

"But from what I've read about Cyprus' history before and after 1964 I think he's a great TC and deserves respect for most of his brave deeds."

You must have been VERY selective in your reading material, Hans !

i think in his day he was good for the tc's but the world has moved on.

i think the next generation want different things than those of the past.

i haven't ever met him but he is well respected in old school circles.

msg 17

Yes firestarter he was respected many years ago when he was best friends with clerides, they studied law together in the UK after doing there army service together... but he damaged his respect with most of his old buddies when he tried to change the north of cyprus into an extension of Turkey, it is he who brought over thousands of mainland turks & housed them in gc properties, even 2 years after the green line was opened, it was him who let the likes of Azil Nadir & Gary rob into the north... maybe its payback time now....

Have I been asleep? What has happened to 'Dryboak', as he is now posting under the soubriquet of 'Scribes'?

sorry kaiserphil you totally lost me.

we were talking about denktas.

juliet

i have heard some great stories from a tc friend who was a teenager/young man when he use to visit our village a lot. it was like an invitation only sort of thing, and he was on the door to stop those not invited coming in.

his dad who is about the oldest man in the village was good friends with denktas but i think over time they lost touch a bit.

was denktas from the north or the south originally?

fire starter - sorry you are totally lost, but then I don't suppose you really are, if you are actually who I suspect you are!

I was merely pointing out that Dryboak (Pike, as you so very well know) seems to have quickly dried up, and is now posting under the name of 'scribes'.

Clear now? If not, sit down and think about it!

from the last to the first:

msg 21: as far as I remember, he is originally from Limassol. But I may be wrong.

msg 17: yes, Denktas is well respected among his generation, but not that much among the newer generations.

msg 4: I don't think that what Soyer did is just a move for the forthcoming elections. Let me remind you that the allegations related to Denktas and Eroglu are relatively new. The second file of allegation on Ergenekon just recently has publicized, and it is about 3000 pages. Hence, to me, there is no point to criticize about the timing.

You should know better than me; in Europe or US, politicians resign immediately as their name is mentioned in an scandal, whether true or not. But Eroglu tries to depreciate the allegations, as well as Denktas. To me, these names were, and still are, as harmful as possible for TC and Turkey, and they should be off the political scene ASAP!

one last word;

how can someone feel respect to Denktas? He founded TRNC because his time as a prime minister as about to end, and he would have no right to be chosen prime minister again, according to the old law. In the TRNC law, there is no restriction; one can be prime minister over and over again, if chosen. Keep in mind that, before TRNC, there was no isolations and embargos; the world had been recognizing TC's.
