I believe that they are still banned because the army do not allow there use for the usual reasons

I think you will find that the government do not allow their use, for a number of reasons including the fact that people were using them to find relics and icons and were not declaring them, the army also as stated above frown on them, there are also heavy fines for anyone caught using them.

Hope this helps

We brought one out (since binned) and our Muhtar spotted it and told us that they were banned and said not to use it. Don't think anything has changed since then.

sometimes they seem to catch a few people who have aquired antiquities, i think it was last weeks paper showing the haul of what they found the culprits with.

maybe the weeks before??

there is one antiques place here where i have seen stuff with crosses carved on things ect, which i find in bad taste as they clearly belong to someone else.

if i called the owner 'kopek' you would probably remember who i mean, lol.

i was given a icon/cross which a turkish friend found, she was happy to give it to me as she wanted to return it to someone from the right religion.

being a non believer i will be passing it on to someone who is, as i am sure we would never find the owner.

its not valuable but it should be returned home are my feelings on it.
