A 36-year-old Turkish Cypriot police officer has committed a suicide at the Ledra Street Crossing Point.

Soner Uzunoglulari fired his service pistol, targeting his chest close to the heart.

He died at the scene.

The incident occured behind the passport control points located at the Ledra Crossing.

Ledra is the main crossing point between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish-held north.

Yes it's all very sad for the loved ones he leaves behind etc etc, but spare a thought for the poor sods who have to cope with cleaning up the mess, and the queues at passport control must have been horrendous!

I work for the rail industry, and at least once a week there is a poor soul who takes their life under a train. As much as you feel sympathy for the victim, I wish they'd do it somewhere private, and not make it so difficult for the ones who have to deal with the aftermath.
