Police clamping down on dreambox suppliers

In todays Cyprus weekly, Police on the Island have raided shops and suppliers of the dreambox, and arrests have been made in trying to clear up the pirating of sat chanells on the Island. Also they are trying to find out who owns these boxes.

I believe this to be the Police in Limasol. They may struggle to enforce anything this side of the green line.

Why the dreambox in particular ?



Can't you pirate with other boxes eg NEXT etc

Judging info I just received from a client in the Larnaca area - the card sharing mob HAVE been affected in the "rump" RoC as their service has just gone off - but they are back paying SKY now.





Those that THINK piracy in TR is tolerated.. When Digiturk get a warrant to raid the pirates they ain't "gentle" with 'em.



If the "TRNC" wants to be taken seriously by the outside world it will normalise regulating piracy, too.



"The times, they are a changin' " .. the pirates got too "successful".. something HAD to be done.

It is a sat receiver with a network port - so it can receive illegal hacked or card shared info to "open" encrypted channels.



This was the box of choice for folk trying to get something one SHOULD be paying for - for nothing.

Re Msg No. 9: Isn't SKY also illegal?? Only legal for UK residents. Easy to spot the SKY users in Cyprus by the huge dishes - will "anti-SKY" raids be next I wonder? Maybe if you paint "TURKSAT" on your SKY dish will keep them away?

Sky cannot knowing supply a sub unit outside UK / IRL - due to the rights they have paid for.



Sat TV companies don't REALLY care as long as you are paying - if you TELL them - I'm in Cyprus - they should cut you off. Sky and other pay tv cos refer to this as grey market.



The EU passed a Directive to encourage TV cos to allow folk to watch their home tv in third EU country - this is not well known. That is WHY the Swiss - a member of the EEA rebroadcast BBC with impunity - as long as it is not charged for.

Get yourself a SKY box and subscription and get a big dish in Cyprus... ONLY way to watch all the UK soaps / sports in best quality - you CAN watch 'em over the internet - but it ain't as satisfying...
