Well it is a positive step forward they are agreeing on things and implementing them, does this mean they can work together? is this the start to a Bi Zonal Cyprus both sides working as one? it is too early to say but the indications are there. There is very strong support for the process in the international community along with high expectations of success. Deal nearly done??

The USC maybe (United States of Cyprus)?

That's the impression that came to me too, these announcements of small cooperation and working together are just setting the scene so people start to accept things in small doses, or thats the way it seems.

Juliet,

Do you have any proof of this or is it just a gut feeling,

Paul.

Correct it will be seen as one the United Staes of Cyprus working together as one. The solution won't suit everyone as you say but it is workable.

I would imagine so Paul, surely they would have had to make the deal sweet for both sides for them to agree. International Community Chest most probably,

the talks have been dead in the water for months, come the elections it will all change, why do you guys thing turgay avci guaranteed all properties ,this and this alone should tell you that there is no return ,does anyone really believe any t/c or g/c will move from their homes ,for does of you that do believe it ,you are in cuckoo land ,people make remarks ,like 75% , "suzanne" they pull these figures out of the air. the reality is as we have it now and as it is it will stay ,why, simple because we t/cs know the g/cs will yield zero.

so guys chill out and enjoy the kktc ,there will be no changes ,not from the talks anyway.

musin

long live the kktc

a reconciliation of some sort would be wonderful news

letting ambulances cross over and co-operation on many other matters

may either be a prelude to settlement, or continued independence

the international community prefers an agreed settlement to the dispute:

downer is hoping the contradictory demands of each side can be reconciled

it appears that any handover of guzelyurt and varosha would garner little support nowadays from turkish cypriots, post-annan

so listing other towns for exchange is futile

for expats a deal may result in them forking out several thousand euros

but seeing the value of their modest home double:

this may be the real reason some cyprus 44 members are sympathetic

to reunification and are not threatened by majority rule

but as muzin reminds us in message 20:

"does anyone believe... t/cs and g/cs will move from their homes?"

the south wants restitution, the north "may" pay compensation:

is there a deal in that?

don't think so

IF there's any progress - so -far it will be on things they CAN agree on ;)

Property: still think it will give rights to most to remain where they are - but also "rights" some time in the future, too, to those displaced.

Varosha - for sure - will be out of TR military control. It's not like any TCs are going to be "kicked out" - and it was always a bargaining chip (sic).

"new govt" in the north? So ? TR will tell 'em to agree a deal - if that's what TR wants..

Naw he is setting the stage Paul,

They are probably not too far from a deal and a lot of people may not be happy, everything is being brokered by the Yanks and the EU probably with Turkey. This is telling people you are going to have to accept the deal and that's it there will not be another it is this or nothing.

Two state Cyprus, and compo with a ceiling on it take it or leave it option.
