Front page of CT today, Royal Mail have finally accepted there is a problem and are going to start an investigation.

Odd that BRS appear to be taking credit for this action. many of us have been liasing with MP's and with Royal mail for several months. This before BRS did their sample survey although this probably was the final piece in the chain.

For anyone not reading CT, Royal Mail are quoted as going to send out a variety of types of mail to a sample population in TRNC. Those individuals that have already been through this survey following MP's intervention will tell you that all business mail sent to addresses in TRNC arrived, all personal mail did not!!!!!

Let's hope that Royal Mail follow through with their promises to us and that they can find the reason for the missing mail items.

Last month I posted a letter at Girne Post Office to the UK and handed to a young lady there to ensure it was posted. A month on it has still not arrived. Yet previous letters I have sent to the same address have arrived within 5 days. I receive letters from my UK Bank and advertising blurb regularly and now our local postman delivers to the house it seems to have improved. However I also had my Police National Computer report sent twice last year and it never arrived. I used the same address as I did for the aforementioned letters. Two months ago I had my Birth Certificate posted to me to the same address and that didn't arrive either. My view is a large contingent of GC's working within the Postal system in the UK and they are responsible for waylaying any mail they come across sent from or destined for the TRNC. I also conclude that those letters that could contain documents for house purchase are the main target. Clearly they don't catch them all but enough to disrupt life here.

strangly enough an Ipswich postman was in court this week charged with stealing 70000 pieces of mail. Pleaded not guilty. Case continues whilst he will be suspended on full pay. Wonder if any was destined for mersin 10 xxxx

We have had several letters arrive from Girne but all have been opened. I wouldn't send anything sensitive through their post but carrying docs with you is no better. One of our neighbours was carrying all his house docs back to UK & on his way to Larnaca was stopped by customs & all his docs were taken, he was told he could argue about it but - "did he really want to miss his flight?"

He had no choice but to leave them behind.

We and friends send numerous mail from variuos parts of the UK to karaoglanoglu, and they very rarely receive it. I would say 1 in 10 of letters arrive, if that and this has been going on for a few years now.

Tony

recorded mail seems to get here no problem also my friend this year asked fo a proof of postage stamp which costs pennies to be put on her Xmas cards to here. No problem they got here within 5 days. The rest of them well, the same old story disappeared into thin air.

In the work done with post office, all the mail that was in official envelopes and recorded mail got here. Anything that was hand written and obviously personal did not arrive.

There is very little evidence of mail going missing going to UK.

For me the nonesense said about the problem happens in Istanbul is nonesense. Why would all personal mail for Mersin 10 be lost there. The only place I and many others identify as the problem is the International sorting in North London where allegedly there is a preponderance of people of a certain nationality.

They only take out personal mail because taking official mail would initiate a big inquiry by for example inland revenue or major banks.

My opinion anyway.

Msg 1

The BRS will take credit for anything whether involved or not! Not an upstanding organisation as I learnt to my own cost!

This was an old thread resurected so that the forum could see that the problems are both ways. By the way yesterday was the 6th delivery that we have received this year (due to the snow).

The point of Msg 7 was that it takes a lot of time for mail from TRNC to arrive in Gloucestershire.

A letter posted in Istanbul on the 6th of January arrived same post with the one sent from North Cyprus on the 8th December!

So the route of the problem might be different to what one supposes might it not?

cyprusishome,You are spot on.My bank statements had a black marker line drawn accross the Mersin 10 part. When i checked with the bank in u/k i was told there was nothing that the bank could/would do.The statements went through the sorting office you are referring to.

That's typical, contributor is happy to make derogatory comments but with nothing to support it. Let us know what your gripe is so we can discuss it.

Thats funny because i sent mail from Catalkoy post office on 4th January and it arrived in the UK on Monday 11th, only a week and that was after the snow in the UK, some inland mail in the UK takes longer. I must say we get all our mail within 10 days, and when we send it always arrives in UK within that time scale too!!! Maybe we are lucky.
