Hi there just a to let people know that we where burgled last night (when we were sleeping and all windows and doors closed - forced entry) and when we went to the lapta police we were told that they had 6 others last night and some over the last few weeks - same story - only cash taken - so be warned - any recommendations regarding alarm systems or lock specialists please.

Hi Ben,

I am so sorry to hear that. We had 2 burglaries last year in Ozankoy, both while sleeping. Scary to think that they come in when you are in bed.

We live in Northern Ireland and have never had anything like it even in the old days of the 'Troubles'.

We have now put locks on all the windows and patio doors, also a wrought iron security gate on the back door and bars on the 40cmx40cm window where they got in last time.

Something I would recommend that everyone gets is a motion sensor, they are only about £25 from Homebase or B&Q but hung on a wall they will pick up any intruder and omit a very loud sound. Scare the wits out of anyoneand i don't think they'd hang around.

If you need a locksmith there is a really good one in Tin Pan Alley, left hand side coming in from the High St, he speaks good English and wiil come to your house.

Hello Ben

I too live in Karsiyaka. I had cash taken from my villa a few days ago - thankfully I was not at home when it happened, it's bad enough to think that someone has been in my house and gone through all my things, but even worse to think that it could have happened while I was asleep!

A neighbour also lost cash and some jewellery from their home - during the day, while they were in!! There are no signs of forced entry, and no one seems to have seen anything or anyone hanging around the development.

And I should also mention, I have a dog!! quite a large one, but she didn't deter this person from entering my property.

It is very unsettling, I just hope that whoever is responsible is caught soon.

I would also appreciate some advice on lock specialists..

I too live on the sea side of Karsiyaka. Just thought I would say that I saw the police drive through the fields and past my house twice yesterday evening so they are obviously keeping a lookout. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Hi

We have just come back yesterday and we also had an attempted break in via our bedroom window, which they broke but luckily did not get in. We called the Lapta police and they also confirmed there had been several breakins that week.

Hopefully everyone around will keep their eyes open

I find all of this more than a little worrying, at first I thought, just lock the bedroom door and let them rummage about all they like downstairs, but now, they are getting in the bedroom windows too, I honestly can't think of anything worse than being locked in a bedroom with a burglar!

the truth

i was just thinking along similar lines.

we have a friend who is a policeman and he lives in that area. i'm sure if someone entered his house he would deffinately shoot the person.

as for us if you could get past my dogs you would be bloody lucky.

that is one advantage of living in a village, when someone who doesn't lives here turns up, everyone knows. you just can't get in here unnoticed, lol.

the down side is everyone knows everyone else's business.

Yes upon completion of service and all discharge formalities as you are no longer operational or a serving member of the regiment you can disclose quite openly that you were a former soldier and your regiment was SAS.

Sorry sagsy to say that I am in the same club as you. We have also lost jewellery and cash to these Bstrds. Really hope that they are caught as well but I think that they are working in separate gangs which would be harder for the police to catch. There are a lot of desperate people out there getting away with it and I do think the same as you. They are getting greedy and more cheeky BECAUSE.. they are getting away with it.

Thanks to everybody for replies - difficult finding suitable locks for pvc windows so stock up when you are in the UK - they now have reasonably priced electronic safes at the Yapi market between the DVD shop and Pizza King - in the meantime think the only course of action is to sleep on your cash though! We have had a closer look at all our windows and doors and discovered the tell tale nicks on the edges of the windows and doors .. so me thinks it may not be the first time ... might explain why my iphone went missing some months ago ... and I thought it might have been the delivery guy which I feel bad about now - those who want to earn an honest buck wouldn't stoop so low .. lets make it harder for these thieving bastards - hope this doesn't become another place where you have to have bars on your windows to feel safe.

The systems are wire free except for the mains power for the control panel and the transformer for the external bell box if you have one.

It signals by use of the GSM network and sends text messages upto 8 different mobile numbers.

The system can be controlled by either remote keypad, remote control fob or by text messages from your mobile phone.

The system consists of control panel, remote keypad, 2 fobs, 3 pirs, 1 door contact, internal sounder, 1 years maintenance (2 maintenance visits with battery changes).

Cost for system £750Stg

When we first came out to N/C many years ago, we thought it strange that the locals had decorative iron bars up against the outside their windows/doors, in a place where crime was relatively pretty much non existent.

Having had the unpleasant experience of being broken in to, now, we are so careful, if we go out, even to the shops, or to visit friends we make sure the house is secure, even to the point of when we are visiting our next door neighbours.

It is such a shame.

piggy - agree - a very sad state of affairs. Like yourselves, we started coming to TRNC many years ago and "crime" was virtually non-existant. I wonder, now, whether you'd even feel happy leaving your stuff on the beach when you went for a swim or up to lunch?

We haven't been to our place since October - out in June - and, apart from the torrential rain (badly needed, I know) am starting to get a bit alarmed at what I might find.

As you so rightly say - such a shame.
