Any advice please. What is the law concerning property after death and if needed, how much will a Will cost? Thanks

Hi you may find this link helpful - http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/documents/Will.html

You will need to email Marian at - marian@ayza.net to receive the template.

Yes a will is essential in the TRNC. Make sure that whoever or however you make your will out, it is registered at the kyrenia courts

I did this 2 years ago, and it cost £90 if I remember rightly, and registered

it at law courts. No problem.

We got our will template from HBPG.

Easy to complete and cost 33tl for stamps. I say easy, it is as long as your estate is to be passed to spouse in first instance and if both dead the estate to go to one person or divided equally between others.

The will is lodged in court office. In fact this is done in exactly the same way if you use a legal person except, as someone said on an earlier thread "you do not have to give more money to ******* lawyers who have already stolen enough from you"!

If you die without a will your estate goes to the nearest male relative, ie if husband dies does not automatically go to spouse. It is therefore essential that a will is lodged.

If required, I kept copies of the pro formas. If you e me and tell me how many executors and how many benificiaries I will send the appropriate one.

Just to put right a couple erroneous statements above:

If you do not make a will or if you do not make it according to strict rules your estate will be subject to exactly the same rules as Turkish Cypriots with no will, no more and no less i.e. when you die your heirs will have rights according to the laws here. There is absolutely no discrimination between male and female relatives.

Basically a British born person can bequeath everything. A foreigner apart from British can bequeath all his movables but the immovables are subject to the same rules as Turkish Cypriots.

You do not need a solicitor as there is no such thing in the TRNC - you are well advised to have an Advokat. We have a good one (to put it another way one we feel we can trust) she even rewrote the wills at no charge as she was not happy with the wills doing what we required. If you want a referal do ask as I dont want to embarass her husband, who is a regular poster.

Your will is better deposited in the courts and that can be Famagusta or Kyrenia. Don't forget if you change your will to have the old one destroyed.
