Does anyone know if your crossing the North border from the south - how much it costs for insurance? And if we have cars or 7 seaters it makes a difference on the insurance side. thanks

There are different insurance providers at the border and each has their own closing time ranging from 22.00 to 00.00. The insurance provided can be third party or fully comprehensive the cost starts from 20 euros for 3 days third party up to 60 euros for 1 month fully comprehensive. You may use the following 3 border points to pay for insurance and pass 24/7: Ayios Demotios in Nicosia, Pergamos (Pyla) in Larnaca and Vvisoules Strovilia in Famagusta. There are breakdown services in both the North and the South.

I can recommend Fontana Car Rentals for pick up in South for use in North Cyprus. Their website is http://www.cyprus-car.com

I think it's 30 euros for 4 week's but watch what time you are crossing as the insurance kiosk is not open 24/7

If we are travelling from Larnaka to Lefke - what is the best route/directions and which border do we pass?

The easiest and quickest crossing point from Larnaca is via Pyla/Pergamous.

You would have to be mad to use Pyla en-route to Lefke. A little further west may be more appropriate.

If you take a look at a map of the TRNC you will see that Lefke is in the far west. In my opinion it will be better to cross at Metahan (Lefkosa) and then pick up the highway towards Guzelyurt/Lefke.

To cross at Pyla would mean going East for a fair way.

That's very true Peter, but irrelevent to Light who is crossing South to North. Let's try not to confuse people.

Hi....I always use the crossing in Nicosea, driving up the dual carriageway from larnaca...very easy route.....be careful when arriving late evening...you cannot cross without the additional insurance, the Insurance office can be closed from 1.30 am to 7 a.m..other than that ..no problems
