Could anyone advise where my friends could buy an Irigation Timer for their garden from this side of the Island, they are out on holiday at their villa until Thursday and need to repace their faulty one before they return to England.

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Carmel,

I think that Çelen at 'Gardens of Babel' in Lapta would sort you out, or there's Green Garden, just on the Western side of Girne - well, before Karaoğlanoğlu anyway! - they definitely sell them

I don't know about anywhere up your end (if you'll pardon the expressıon!) but somone probably does...

Keith.

racoonchic,

A bit of a sweeping statement. You can purchase Galcon 'Computerized Irrigation Controllers' over here and they are available world wide (including the UK) very reliable, easy to set up, (9 volt battery last's at least a year). I have had mine for over 5 years now and no problems (apart from battery change and even then it retains all settings while you change the battery).

I dont know the price now but when I bought out here it was circa £30.

They are connected just after your water pump.

Thanks AJ. Is this to pump that supplies the house or can it also be used for wells?

Hi,

AJ posted an answer to one of my questions last week about garden irrigation and he gave me a name and telephone number which you may find very useful:

'Unsal Eringin

Top guy and reliable. Speaks good English.

Phone: 0533 860 8751

E-mail: unsal@sunnycyprus.net

He did my irrigation system and did a bl**dy good job.

Me too.

Last year meters were being disconnected at homes that were not permanently occupied and using irrigation systems. Customers then had to pay to be reconnected and no doubt fined.

Personal view, quite right too. There is a drought and us permanent residents are the ones who will suffer.

we have had to start our garden from a fresh and have only planted stuff which is local and doesn't need bucket loads of water.

apart from my window boxes, they drink a litre of water per day in summer.

last year in the next village some friends (tc's) had a hose pipe laying around in the garden, the muhtar saw it and called the police.

we were surprised as our village is ok with water usage but clearly not in the next village!
