One thing to bear in mind is the cost of running central heating, if you are loaded then no problem but my next door neighbour had it installed and it was designed to run off of LPG and the first year it cost him a fortune so now it is not used and he heats with a log burner supplemented by calor gas heaters.

So it may be wise to look at running cost's before you commit.

For cost savings and efficiency revert back to the 1950's with good old fashioned paraffin heaters! Did me proud in my open plan living area last winter, until it attracted the bats and owls, but they were cold too!

I presume your place (as are most others) is open plan, i.e. living room with an archway to the hall/kitchen etc. If so then the use of heavy curtains to isolate areas from other areas works quite well. In the height of the winter we had just one calor gas fire heater in our living room and that was running on one bar, we had a heated blanket for our bed and always had the option of running aircon on heat in our bedroom if we needed it. I would say explore all other avenues before committing yourself to central heating, could be an expensive mistake.

Rowlo,

If you use your apartment as a holiday home then I would consider all other options as AJ is saying as it will take along time before your initial costs will level out.

We had open plan and it was freezing in the winter but where we could we actually had some lovely internal half glass doors fitted that did not spoil the rooms at all plus AJ's suggestion of some heavy curtains is a good idea as my friends use this and it makes a tremendous difference in the room heat and is a cheaper alternative to doors.

Central heating is very expensive, we have filled up 5 times at a cost of roughly 850tl a time..since November but imo worth every penny..I hate being cold

Hi deecyprus4 are you kidding about the cost of filling up the gas tank for central heating? If that is the cost I may have to import snow suits and thermal underwear for the wife as she must be like you? How many rooms do you have and how many radiators? Do you stay at the top of the mountains?

Hi deecyprus - many thanks our place is not as big but no doubt her indoors would want it on all day, still going for the snow suit option as it must be cheaper!!! I will just have to chase her round the bungalow to keep her warm but then again the battery in my mobility scooter will need charging more often! The heating WILL be on all day ( Mrs indoors)

Reminds me of a friend of mine who used to go down to the local for the last hour. One day he said to his wife ' right sweetheart put your hat and coat on '

She looked at him with love in her eyes and said ' oh John thats the first time you have asked me to go with you in all our married life ' .

He said no love i'm turning the heating off!!!!!

I have fitted slimline storage heaters. They seemed to have worked well and i thought the cost was quite reasonable. It,s another avenue to explore
