You may not be aware but for some reason the drivers of the local dolmus public service went on strike yesterday at about 1pm, not an issue for me so much, but the ignorance during this dispute and ability to leave hundreds of school children abandoned at bus stops was overwhelming especially in the heat of the day, in a so called democratic society these drivers, their trade union assuming one exists and the local authorities should have prevented the walk out, got round a table and if neccessary call a strike once parents had been given notice to make other provisions for their children. Whether politically motivated or not, I am sure the citizens, visitors and school children using this public service deserve to be treated with respect, this narrow minded ignorance is something that we should not hav to get used to. In compensation to the chool children and their parents I suggest a week of free transport be provided by the drivers to all the school children.

Unfortunately, strikes have to inconvenience people otherwise they are not effective. Whether they are justified or in pursuance of reasonable aims is another matter.

Vaughan you old leftie! I agree that strikes have to be of an inconvenience, but the idea is to get people to agree with you (on your side), that is why unions and governments put laws into place that if trade union action is to take place then reasonably notice must be given to those that may be affected, especially if the most vulnerable citizens lifes could be put at risk! I am sure you would not want your children to be left out in the cold or midday heat regardless of the cause. Not all children have the use of mobile phones or are confident enough to hitch hike home, even in a safe community like Kibris.

Don't know or care for the reasons, only care that the action towards their fellow brothers and sisters (citizens) was a disgrace. Like most thinking in the TRNC it is short term with no condideration for their actions, if you asked the average Joe what his long term aspirations are they would be to get reach tomorrow!

Seems to have been going on today aswell, I ended up walking as there was no Girne-Lapta dolmuş, I only saw the 'official' Lefkoşa-Girne bus but no dolmuşes going by, very in-convenient indeed!
