I live at the end of a track but where it comes out onto the main(ish) road it is between two walls and visibility is poor to say the least. The number of times I have almost lost the front end of the car is without number and more so during the "Tourist" season. Despite many requests to the Muktar nothing ever happened regarding a blind spot mirror and then ............ Ozankoy transferred to Girne council. I thought I would try again and wandered into the main offices - finding the right person to talk to took up 3 visits and then I was given the phone number to ring and made contact with Mr Ali Technical! Arranged an appointment to meet him and he was there at the given time. Explained the problem and he got straight onto the phone to the highways maintenance people, off the phone he said to me "They will be there tomorrow"! Well, I thought, at least I tried. Today two guys turned up and put up a blind spot mirror - beat that for service in the UK. Very well done Ali!

Quarmby, I waited 4 years for a blind spot mirror in the UK, then left the country. I waited 4 years for the council to collect my rubbish from outside my house instead of having to drag it 1/2 mile down the lane to the main road! I waited 4 years for a street light - any sort of light would do! It took the council 2 years to find my address so they could come and inspect the need for a light! But it only took them 8 days to find us when they wanted to establish how much I had to pay in rates!!! UK, bent as anywhere else and always with an EU rule to get them off the hook. Glad to be here where it goes slow but at least it go's. Ali Technical phone number is - 0542 8821 117 and he is the man responsibile for all road works and traffic things in the Girne Municipality - busy guy with no known friends but a real nice chap. In through main doors, first room on left then first on right - go see him if you can catch him, he try's!

sylvie, Meant as a joke, please do not take it the wrong way. Ali Technical is one of the nicest guys I have met out here and could not have been more helpful to us in anyway. I said he had no known friends and by that meant that everyone "wanted" to be his friend so they could get something out of him and NOT that he did not have friends. Appologies that it was taken the wrong way. Quarmby, Lived three miles outside a village in Shropshire for last four years before getting here. Before that lived for three years on a new estate and they only managed to put tarmac down 4 months before we left there - so, very used to living off a dirt road and very happy to do so. Mick

Quarmby mssg 4 I bought a house in 1973 on an unmade road and in the searches my solicitor found that the local council were going to adopt the street and tarmac it. Now, in 2009 the same road is still unmade. Thats 36 years!

most of the time, in cyprus, the road have to be done by the builders, pavement as well - some builders do not finish the work - 36 years ago is before the war !

Harita, Well he had to get our mirror from somewhere I guess - lol. I think that Ali is just roads and nothing to do with bins, always thought that was down to the Muktar to sort but it may have moved into the main office in town now. Go ask them, they are all helpful people in there. Mick
