With the Champions League now at the crucial stages, how many people can truthfully say they can put club loyalties to one side and support all the British sides remaining in the competition?

No I don't support the other English teams. The reason is simple. If they progress further in the CL it gives them more resources and kudos to attract better players which is to the detriment of my owned beloved Gunners.

Can't get past that, even if I try.

Arrry,

Spot on, it won't be an easy semi against Man U and I don't see the Gunners beating THE PRIDE OF ALL EUROPE, THE COCK OF THE NORTH.

Do you actually realise what the silver polish bill is at The Theatre Of Dreams?

It won't be any cheaper next year.

RE msg 1, Goonerboy > all the British sides remaining in the competition <

=> Hmmm. "British sides", eh? Chelsea - Liverpool. 22 players. Now let me count: 19 (!) of them non-British... "British sides", eh? And I even don't mention this Chelsea manager. What's his name again..? Where's he from...?

By the way Dutch; where would Ajax be without John Kirwan and especially Jack Reynolds?

I am a Stoke City supporter and as we don't have a cat in hells chance of making it into Europe, I have no problem with supporting all other British clubs.

1st. The boys at Stamford Bridge. (Ex-shed end supporter).

2nd. Any non-English Team, apart from The Krauts, Frogs and Argies.

3rd. The Krauts, Frogs and Argies.

If any English team, apart from Chelsea are in the Final, then I'll support the opposition!

I could not stand watching my mates of Man U or Arsenal gloating if they won.

RE msg 17, newscoop > By the way Dutch; where would Ajax be without John Kirwan and especially Jack Reynolds? <

=> Mr. Reynolds (†): absolutely. Too good for his time. His concept of football was picked by the Dutch ex-Ajax player and later Ajax-manager Rinus Michels (†), who led Ajax and the Dutch national team into the era of "total football". All of Europe - possibly even the world of football - should bow to and remember Mr. Reynolds.

Wouldn,t support any team who do not wish to have anything to do with being British, and whose fans constantly sing and cheer and gloat about British Servicemen being harmed. (ie a certain team from Glasgow) will let you work that one out!!

Surely the influence behind Mr Michels concept of finest Total Football must have been 1970 Brazilian World CupWinners .Rivelino, Jairzinho, Tostao, Gerson, Alberto et al and of course not forgetting the incomparable Pele.

Although the Dutch were good ,some would say even great I don't think they could have lived with the greatest footballing team the world has ever seen.

RE msg 26, Villain: Ok, the times they are a'changing... Let's not quarrel about who were 'the best' - I think you and I are old enough to have seen the best football in the 20th century. Do you agree? And personally I'm glad to have seen the rise and top-time of Ajax Amsterdam's Johan Cruijff and his unforgettable team mates, ruling Europe for a decade. Well, which empire or which top football team lasted for ever..? Answer: none. So let's cherish our memories!

Villain;

How could the 1970 Brazil side have influenced the Ajax/Dutch brand of total football which came to the fore in the mid sixties? and furthermore was first put into practice in Holland in the early sixties!

With regards to Ajax and Brazil - they both met regularly when I was a lad - at my home on the subbuteo pitch .What fantastic teams & kits to match ! - Must say though ,went to Villa Park for the UEFA cup game earlier in the season - great result for the boys in Claret & Blue but what a disappointment to see one of the European greats take to the pitch in Blue instead of the iconic Red & White.

re msg 19 - so my supporting just united is a reason why we are the most hated club eh?! I think its probably down to our success that we are hated, and quite frankly, proper die hard united fans dont care that others dont like us.
