Alsancak restaurants/no smoking?

I believe that most indoor sections of all Alsancak restaurants are already no-smoking , can anyone clarify this please?

Unfortunately this did not apply to the three brits opposite my table why were sat next to the no- smoking sign puffing away

It is only very loosely enforced. Simular to most things, when it suits them.

I think this subject has been 'done to death'.

All restuarants in UK are non smoking.

It won't be long until we'll be all eating outdoors, then it probably won't matter.

Asked to be sat in the non smoking area at Niazzi's in Girne. Fine until large TC lady at next table decided she would smoke. They obviously need her custom more than ours.

=> The law is on your side. Call the police. Or - even much better - go to a 100% non-smoking bar/restaurant and leave us smokers where we like it. We, smokers, won't miss fanatics.

niazzi's/mirage in lefkosa now have seperate areas for smoking and non smoking.

it is quite a big place and they have the space to impliment it, where some of the smaller places are struggeling.

I have researched this fairly thoroughly, including consulting a local with good legal knowledge. I have also downloaded and translated the relevant TRNC law, which is quite clear - the smoking ban affecting 'restaurants, cafes (whether alcohol is served or not), coffee-shops, etc and other locations where food is consumed by the public' does NOT legally become enforceable until 1st January 2010. The local officials are going around telling restaurant owners about fine for smokers/owners, etc. but are conveniently forgetting to advise them that the ban does not come in until 1.1.2010. Mind you, the clause in the law giving the application date of the law is on page 16 of an 18 page document, so maybe they haven't read that far!

Irrespective of what anyone thinks about smoking in restaurants, they will lose a lot of money if they do nothing to accommodate smokers in the colder weather.

Guido's in Alsancak is non smoking inside, they have been warned by the police even though it doesnt come into force until 2010 that they will be fined.

so us smokers sit outside, so everyone is happy,

I agree exnavalperson thats why everywhere is empty

Hiya Smithy I know we implement it inside as the smoking police keeps paying us a visit. Even though its not law till 2010. They do fine you as they are practising but go to any turkish or cyp owned restaurant and of course you can smoke. discrimition at its best as usual xxxxxxxx

I think it is great no smoking in Restaurants i find it so rude when you sit at you table and not every body has finish eating and they light up and their smoke drifts towards other peoples table who are still eating just have not got any respect for any body else.
