Invest in anything non EU and not just Turkey or TRNC.

Look at the world as a whole. Global investments is key.

So a dispute in France makes you want to run away? Sounds to me you could be running away for the rest of your life.

If you speak French, hold a Carte Sejour I would look at the Dom Toms. Tahiti, New Caledonia, plenty of options. There is an Island French Colony off the coast of Canada, name escapes me which sounds interesting. Become a 'pied noir'!

Close the tunnel, send back all the apples, stop buying the butter - let the frogs stew! Move out of France - would never have moved in!

Probably many want to leave but trying to sell a property here at the moment is difficult.

If you'd been here ten years ago and compare the quality of life to what it is now, you'll understand firestarters cyniscism.

As someone who has bought houses in France (alps) & Cypus (north) I must comment..

FRANCE

I have a 2 bed winter ski/summer sports apartment in the Chamonix Valley. Yes expensive i.e 250K GBP. But the French market is stable (i.e. the banks do not do silly mortgages). Sure the locals are miserable....the're French!. But the reason why I bought was for the place not the people, it's big mountain skiing & summer biking/hiking heaven!

CYPRUS

I have a 4 bed villa in NC. Not expensive i.e. 110K GBP. No, of course the TRNC market is not stable, hence the price (+ no mortgages), but the locals are fantastic. The reason I bought was the size/location of the house I could buy, plus the amazing mountain/sea vista that Is NC. In comparison ro S. Cyprus....have people forgotten how lucky we are!!!!!

SO BUY WHERE YOU WANT TO BE! I WILL NOT SELL FOR 20 YRS, SO ALL ISSUES OF PROPERTY VALUE WILL HAVE EVENED OUT. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE RANTINGS OF FIRESTARTER & NEG. NICK - LIVE YOUR OWN LIVES..

Sylvie,

Try not to take the world too seriously, it will end up letting you down unless you choose to walk your own path. I choose to help all people along my journey through life, no matter if they do me wrong or help in exchange. A life in the military tends to make you believe in the falibility of others and to treat all things with a certain sence of humour - if you have never been there then you will never understand and will always think as a civilian - not that there is anything wrong with that, we are all human after all.

France is a beautiful county it is true, in fact I have yet to vist a country where I can not find beauty around me. For me, it is the attitude of the French that I can not stand and would not live amongst them.

Brinsley,

They let me in the UK! But then who has the UK refused? Now of course, under the EU the have to let me in - even to France - but I don't have to go!

Take care out there people and enjoy life.

Middle Easters analysis of owning in NC is very good.

Basically I would suggest its for the long term only and definitely do not buy based on rental returns (particularly holiday rentals) as this market is fickle and there is a lot of rental accommodation and unoccupied housing at present.

Middle Easter

I'll call your bluff; for my 130sq metre three bedroom flat in central Girne I will do a direct swap for one of your apartments in France, d'accord? My French bank is Banque Societe General, which shouldn't prove too much of a problem in sorting out transfers and legalities. I await your reply with interest. A la prochaine fois!

for me it is the attitude of certains english that will not make me to try to know them better and you seem to be one of them - nothing to do with the sense of humour - a person is a person good or bad, sensitive or not and to my point of view you are always making comments with nasty sentenses - and then you said it is a sense of humour - never mind it is over for me ! i will not answer your posts anymore !

middleeaster,

chamonix is a very expensive area of course but i do not know any " miserable" french there - of course there are season workers - in restaurant and in the skiing business of course there is a big difference between someone who have money and some you hasn't but it is everywhere in the world except " miserable is not the right word" that's all" i am going to my french miserable french life "

Ten years ago the TRNC was a little paradise but now has another tale to tell. I kick myself for pulling out of Paris but I've dug my hole and survive.

Dear Middle Easter re msg 13

Your comparison of France's "stable" market

http://www.french-property.com/news/french_property_market/property_prices_france/

and banks made me wonder if you are REALLY in touch with the REAL world re the property market?

I know of folk TRYING to sell up in Normandy and in a French ski resort that CAN'T sell as the market is in free fall. May be that's why the French are miserable?!

Interestingly the "south" Cyprus banks that many (incl me) mocked for adverse credit ratings a couple of years back were prudent lenders re security and deposits required.

Your "TRNC" outlook is based on some sort of "stability" re continued TR investment . *I* don't share your positive outlook. It seems clear that there is some sort of "political" agenda to move towards leasehold - rather than freehold - re pre 74 TR/ Foreign deeds.

A lot of Israeli money was invested in such land and any attempt to "burn" such investment is likely to "backfire".

what i cazn see about french market today is that : flats and houses in the central cities are not goin down a all - if you want to buy in central paris today - prices are still high and they will stay - they are more demands than offers - on the opposite outside cities, prices are going down slowly but believe me it is more like people are waiting to buy because of the uncertain future !

Dear Sylvie re msg 23

That is not the experience of friends of mine with properties in regions who -sadly - have reduced incomes, and are having to sell up.

Anthea Turner ( a UK celeb) and her partner are having to sell their French ski lodge, too - and at a price WAY down on the market value of only a year ago.

IF you need to sell - and quick - you'd see how hard things are.

The market price is what someone will pay.... these reports were made before the credit crunch and job losses really started to bite.

I have no direct experience of the Paris property market - so I can't comment ;)

I did not quite understand fully, but you are referring to ignorance, if anything you are the ignorant ones by posting in French. This is an English speaking board.

come on chick, do not feel concern; there is nothing wrong against UK people in jurgen and my post : i haveseen lots of posts on this board in other language -i make the effort to write in english so sometimes little sentence like that can make people to test their knowledge in french -

if you want to know i can translate : i answer to jurgen " sometimes people are afraid of what they ignore" re : sarcastics posts in this forum - i am a polite person and wouldn't say anything bad in an other language !!!

Chick ,

I know this is an english speaking board and I usually write in English , I wrote a few times to Guido and Lullubell in Italian and a few times to Sylvie in French...as a practice , I never wrote something bad about the English or other people..I was just refering to " misérables " : the cake and the book ...mentioning the positive sentence of " misérables"....

Kind regards , Jurgen
