I have just been told that Steve Dickinson is opening a new office in Girne next door to Octopus Pools. This will be much more convenient for people who live on the "East" side. Steve also tells me that he will be be doing some special promotional deals to welcome new customers.

Perhaps Steve is overstretching himself - we were in communication with him by e-mail from here in UK before we took possession of our house in March and he was supposed to call and see us....we waited in all morning but he never turned up and we never even had the courtesy of a phone call or e-mail to apologise......needless to say we have got our insurance elsewhere!

Hi spangles - we were only out for 10 days and had lots of work to do to sort the house out and were on a very tight schedule so it was really annoying - all the local tradesmen we had lined up turned up on time and were really helpful

Why not try The Business Centre in Alsancak, insurances are via Turk Sigorta a company who is 100% safe in these unsettled times as they are associated to Turk Bank.

Your quote is only a phone call away, policy's are in English, there are no hidden excesses when claiming, and no 'No Claims' if you have to make a claim.

Policies can be tailor made to your choice, if you wish.

If you live in the UK and not in Cyprus payment can be made via the UK or via your credit card, direct to Cyprus.

We started using Steve Dickenson after being let down on a claim with Axa insurance, they took 8 months to decide!! Steve gave us a visit and we had all insurance with him.We suffered a burst water pipe when we went up the karpaz for a weekend, Steve came and everthing was sorted in 3 weeks.Regarding the claim with Axa,a truck hit the power lines on the main road and our villa got some extra voltage,The digiturk box,fax machine, rcd, and tv said too much !!! Police came, took statements and Axa said; You must claim off lorry driver !!

Message 20. Take care with the Business Centre in Alsancak.

I needed to make a claim after the DECEMBER gales, as most of my fencing, and the timber cladding over the patio came down. They measured it five or six times, then said they were waiting to find the right material - which had been on sale at IlIf all along - but "couldn't be found". Meanwhile, there was a severe danger that the battered covering over the patio would fall on someone and hurt them. Despite several visits and calls, nothing happened. I kept trying - and then the agent went to UK for a month!

Next excuse was that they were too BUSY, after the MARCH floods. When I finally lost my temper-not something I often do-I was told (after waiting four and a half months) that the parent company, Turk Sigorta, had tightened up on claims because of the severe flood damage and that my policy, after all, did not cover my damage!! Which of course had happened long, long before the floods! Be very careful

LooseBoots,

I think kimig is here referring to a completely different agent and NOT to Steve Dickinson.

Kimig would you care to clarify as I understood you to be commenting on the Business Centre in Alsancak and their principal Turk Sigorta. Perhaps it would have been better to comment thereto on a thread not containing Steve's name as a title

Gordon - yes, I realise that mine was possibly slightly off the title, but there was a blatant advert from Business Centre/Turk Sigorta!! The poster, Chrys, is the agent who runs the Business centre. I wanted to warn anyone else who might get cheated as I was, that's all. h him.YET

I have personally just done a car insurance with Steve, and have no problem at all , as yet

We have house and car insurance with Steve and he has always been efficient and more than helpful. Very pleased with the service.

For the poster who said they were out in March and Steve missed a visit - I know that as a result of the March floods, Steve was absolutely inundated with Emergency visits to customers in dire straits.

I appreciate this may be no consolation to you and an apology/ email would have been helpful. However, I suspect the people with flooding issues will have been grateful for his professional and caring response. I went in to see him during this time to renew a policy and he was genuinely pulling his hair out with the number of claims and as a result was working 7 day weeks and 12 hour days. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Spanna - check the date of the post regarding the no show in March. It's dated April 2009. No floods then and none when he missed his appointment with me either. However, as it is several years ago since he "stood me up" and people are now saying they are getting good service from him I trust he has improved in that time.

Our neighbours used Steve - after a break in last year they were told their policy didn't cover the £400 cash that was stolen and it took them 5 MONTHS to finally fix the broken window. It was a UPVC slidding window which had been bent to pieces by the cuplrits - 5 months of being wedged shut with a piece of wood.

They now use Gunes Sigorta like us - personally I wouldn't use anyone else, although if Umbrella Insurance through Iktisat is as good as their banking service I would I have no problems giving them a try.

Cash is almost never covered by any policy anywhere in the world. It is too variable and near-impossible to prove how much was actually taken.

We are with Limmasol Bank. Our agent is. Yakup Cyprus Pines 0533 8686779 info@cypruspines.com

We had a wall come down in the floods. After getting a quote for the repair from the builder... within forty eight hours we had the go ahead from Limmasol Bank. I had an email from Yakup the settlement cheque is at his office. All done and dusted within three weeks.

I would like to mention we had an antique garden pot broken when the wall came down. We were informed by the insurers we were not insured for the pot under the policy terms. Limmasol Bank gave us a £100 contribution to the replacement cost of the pot on top of the wall repair.

Now that is what I call service. Well done Limmasol Bank and Yakup at Cyprus Pines. AP

Msg 36 - I don't pull pints. Perhaps you should partake of less of them and reread what I wrote.

Of course insurance is available for security firms, safety-deposit vaults and the like. However, insurance for such is obviously arranged according to very different parameters than those for domestic/residential dwellings. Protocols governing such insurance would no doubt require very detailed and up to date information regarding transportation and storage of the items involved being advised to the Insurers on a very frequent basis. Given your example the GBP26m of bullion had been valued at such (by weight) and certified thereto by many interested parties. It was an accepted risk.

Given that there is no ongoing accredited audit of the cash retained in the great majority of domestic residences most normal insurance policies do not cover cash. Maybe not obvious to a layman but this should be fairly apparent to someone with more than a passing acquaintance with the insurance world.

Perhaps jewellry - as pieces are usually somewhat individual and could better be identified and perhaps retrieved.

Cash would be unusual because, as mentioned above, it is unlikely that the amount would have been subject to independant verification immediately prior to the loss.

The only cash that might be covered - and that under a separate policy, very distinct from domestic types - is cash contained in vaults similar to banks with like security systems and subject to independant verification at any time. For instance casinos are required to maintain minimum cash floats; such floats are subject to inspection without notice at any time by the Licensing Authorities. If a casino was robbed (as in Nicosia a few years ago) they could point to the float records to show that money was there.

In the TRNC cash in safes is generally not covered and Insurers are quite clear about this. Besides, most of the domestic safes on offer are no safer than stuffing your valuables into a sock.

The insurer named in the headline may indeed be a decent person and friend to many in the TRNC, however, they certainly fell way short of providing me with anything like a respectable service. I think we found a win win solution. They certainly didn't want my business, and subsequently, I didn't want to put my business their way. We are both mutually happy.

TRNC you are right Steve NEVER pushes anyone or business through others....

He is a true gentleman and has a heart of gold and lives for his clients and yes sometimes this means emails are not always answered but when you have so much business and clients that you like to meet personally then this sometimes happens

in some cases it may be right for an insurer not to accept a risk, for example Steve Dickinson apparently regards the quality and position of the build of some properties to be unacceptable in insurance terms. His judgement has proved correct in many cases in the light of what happened to them as a result of the recent rain.

just to be clear, I am certain that SD did not put himself in a suitable position to assess the risk on my property. He agreed to view my property at a certain time. He did not turn up at the agreed time, nor did I receive an apology. My time was wasted and I felt disrespected. I certainly wont recommend him to anybody else.

Like Breezyboy I got a great service from Creditwest and also received some very good advice. Thanks for the recommendation negative Nick

Yeah right Vaughan.

Check out how many of SarahJB posts are not about insurance. If memory serves me right it isn't the first time you have said how wonderful this guy is

The same guy who dealt with my account in the most unprofeesional way I have encountered in many years in business and private life. He talks a good tale and doesn't follow it up.

The fact remains Vaughan that he obviosly doesn't want the business that much or he would have more respect for his clients.

all I can say is that I've had my water damage sorted out by Steve Dickinson and I didn't have to pay a penny. If that's what happened to you with your insurance company then great but it seems to me that a missed appointment is nowhere as bad as I'm hearing, with some companies finding excuses not to pay out after the storms.

In your first reply to me (msge 50) I feel you have implied that I lack proper judgement in the purchasing of property hence I am not eligible for insurance, and in your second reply to me I am perceiving that you are stating that I lack patience and are somewhat intolerant. I feel that you are trying to undermine my character in order boost Steve Dickensons image. I am beginning to get annoyed and I am asking you to simply only state that which is good about Steve Dickenson, there is no need to leverage his image by undermining someone elses.

I have no desire to continue this thread, but I will only do so if you continue your line of communication. The more you push SD the more people will push back if they have had a poor experience of him.

Does this apply to you? No, you made this clear after my comment based on what Steve told me over a year ago. I then commented on my personal experience because all I've had is positive experiences with Steve. It's called balance and the reason I gave my views was to balance your negative comments. Could you explain again what happened? Did he not pay out for an insured loss? Perhaps he didn't turn up for an appointment? You seem to be pushing Creditwest and that leaves me suspicious of your intentions. Have they paid out on a claim you made? If they have then that would give a better indication of how good they are.

Breezyboy,

msg52.

Steve was a mate before I placed any insurance with him. I now insure everything I have that is insured with him. In one instance when I foolishly reversed into a phone pole he urged me to make a claim when I wasn't too bothered. It is because of my dealings with him, not our friendship, that prompts me to recommend him.

I have had offers from 3 different insurance companies offering me positions with them but they are NO match to how Steve's insurance is.

And has they say "No press is Bad press ;-)

"you seem to be pushing creditwest and that leaves me suspicious of your intentions"

I could say exactly the same about your intentions with Steve Dickenson. I think you will find that I have only mentioned the name creditwest once in the whole of this thread. That certainly doesn't constitute pushing.

Thankfully, I am not yet in a position where I have had to make a claim from my insurer, however I can only judge their potential by the level of service or attention they give me in the first place. praised creditwest and discredited SD.

Just to reiterate once again. I felt that I could not trust SD because his level of service in applying for insurance was extremely poor. Well, non existent in fact. I had to constantly chase him. For this reason, I have no faith in his ability to support me should I make a claim.

So malsancak, I think I will stop wasting my time on this thread. I have said all I need to say.
