Can anyone shed any light on the price of cigs. When I was over in october they were more expensive than the south when I looked in Girne.

Simma - sorry no chance - they are much much cheaper than the south, when you fly in you can bring in 600 unless you live here then you can bring in 1000 average price £8 for 200 south average price £26 for 200 in the shops slightly more expensive but no where near the south prices average shop price is about £12

When I was there in Sept 2006 they were about £14 in the shops

In Sept 2007 they had gone up to about £18

I paid £10Cyprus in the duty free leaving Ercan

Hi dusterbruce

They must have seen you coming with your GC money as I can assure you that at Ercan 200 lambert is £8 sterling. 200 Gold leaf is £9 sterling and the dearest is £10 for some of the fancier brands, and I have been through Ercan five times each way in the past four months, buying fags for the missus each time.

The reason the GC's are so tight on the forty cigs rule at the crossings is that there is such a vast difference in price between the two sides

I'm flying into Larnaca then heading over to the north. Is Larnaca airport likely to be cheaper than locally in north and do they ever check you when heading back over the border to the south? I'll be doing journey in taxi rather than hire car.

Dont try to take tobacco/cigs/sprits from the trnc to the south , it is not allowed you will run the risk if caught of both confisaction + a fine.

My brother in law could not resist the temptation of the cheap prices in the TRNC and got searched when entering the south / all cigs taken off him / then taken by police to cash machine to draw out money to pay his fine of some £80 plus, needless to say he wont be doing it again

no i fly from ercan so buy the reccomended amount of 60 pouches per person in the south and take them back to the north with four of us in the car.

dont buy any in the north to take back as its the same price as the south and can only take 10 puches home so not worth it unless i can get some in ercan airport when we land if its cheaper
