rslalih,

Where abouts in TRNC are you?

My wife is over there now and bought an unlimited use 3g dongle, but skype is impossible, and she has 14 emails in the outbox which will not send, although she can read the email I send her. She is in Bacheli. She has tried it in Esentepe and the signal is no better.

Hopefully someone from that area will be able to give you a better idea if it works or not.

Good luck, it's been a waste of money for us!

RE msg 3, suntanman > she has 14 emails in the outbox which will not send <

=> Which email software does your wife use? Or is it webmail? Have you checked she has chosen the right SMTP server (for sending emails)?

Ive been using 3G since it came here and ive even use it in the car, oviously not when driving myself...

Really pleased with it, the signal seems fine in most areas, unless your using to download a lot of stuff the 60lire should be suffient.

suntanman, - this might help you.....

I live near bahcelli and have a 3G dongle unlimited at 70 ytl / month.

From my house I have no line of sight to a 3g uprated mast, so my dongle connects to the older gprs signal from the mast on the coast side of the road. Having checked upload / download rates, this runs at about half UK dial-up speed.

Knowing this, we do not send attachments larger than about 50k,which would often time out before finished, or try to download pictures which take 1/4 hour to arrive. - U-Tube and skype is also a non starter.

Knowing this limitation we satisfactorily work email, and a couple of tabs like this forum and the bbc news etc, and we can just get the Paul Jones show on radio 2 if we close all other windows !

We use Mozilla (instead of Explorer) which is several seconds faster per opening tab.

Taking the dongle 100 met down the road I can see the Esentepe mast and that is about 20 - 30 x faster, where I download big attachments

best reg

I am on the same site as suntanman and i have no problem at all sending or receiving e mails. The 3G network is slow at the moment because Turkcell have not yet upgraded the Bahcelli area, but its more reliable than my previous server, which used to go down for days on end at times.

Hi elkiton,

Do you think I can put wireless 3G camera's on it, so I can have pictures from inside my villa in trnc when I'm at home in europe? Tx

I think she will be using webmail. How do you explain to someone who knows nothing about computers to check which outgoing server she is connected to for outgoing mail???? She also has 'window live' but I didn't get round to showing her how to use that before she left.

I am up in Bellapais ans am told the service will be fine up there. I was therefore thinking of buying a 70ytl one month connection when I am out in May. Has anyone any experience of using it in Bellapais please? Also do you have to buy consecutive months, as after May I would then not need it until July and then next in October?

Thanks

Any help appreciated.

I've downloaded the latest version of skype, sorted out the internet connection and am up and running. With reference to previous posts, the 3g dongle works fine in Bacheli area (although very slow) I have found out why my 'other half' couldn't send emails.

It's great to be back in TRNC.

Caulkhead, I do know of someone who can only use their 3g outside of their house in Bellapais.

I am only in Catalkoy and can bring my laptop over to your house to try 3g, unless someone in Bellapais can give you more info or help.

When are you over?
