There is no Greek election, however there is an election in the ROC which is the Greek Cypriot south of the island.

Who is this erakica person, there is a Hasan Ercakica, the spokesman for Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, I don't think he is standing in the election.

Candidates are Papa dopoplop!! Christofias, and Kasoulides or some similar spellings. Looks like a close run thing at the moment. Wonder which two will make it through to the second round

hi paul

i know what you mean when you say greek election, you are talking about the greek cypriot election, but like lovingcyprus said hasan ercakica is a spokesman for mehmet talat

the actual election will be fought (in the second round) between tassos papadopoulous who is the present president of the roc who has ties to the eoka and the left party akel leader demetris christofias

there is a lot of talk the north cyprus population prefer papadopoulos to be reelected so the cyprus problem will remain because he wont comprimise on nothing he wont even come to the table to talk to talat because him being a hardliner with eoka issues,in my eyes this is rubbish and once again this is propaganda and on the other hand we have christofias coming out with statements that the greek cypriots should promote and make use of turkeys push of e.u membership to advance the cyprus problem

neither two candidates dont wont to come out publically and say they want to resolve the cyprus situation with north cyprus because this will put them in bad light to the greek cypriots voters

personally i hope papadopoulos remains in power for the only reason because the world have started to realise what kind of person this man stands for so he will have more outside presasure to sort the cyprus problem eventually, where if christofias comes in to power we will be back to square one because the world does not know what he stands for pro or against resolvement and it will take x amount of years for people to discover what kind of man and policies he stands for

so my final conclusion it really dont make any diffrence who is power they both are against north cyprus being independant and they are both cut from the same cloth but we are much more aware of papadopoulous

The guy who laid a wreath at the tomb of Kemal Ataturk was Karamanlis the Prime MInister of Greece, nothing to do with anyone in South Cyprus

Hi

Yes, I was also hoping that Tassos Papadopoulous will win so that there can be a recognised separation of countries. I also think that Demetris Christofias is making a lot of positive noises about finding a solution, without actually stating anything. If I was a betting man I'd put my money on Demetris winning for three main reasons: 1) ROC's economy is slowing down, trade with Turkey and the thought of oil revenues from future oil exploration. 2) ROC is still under the illusion that if Demitris gets in, there might be a solution without the TRNC getting it's own state and 3) Greece will sell ROC off for trade with Turkey. Famous words .... It's economic stupid!.....

I would like to see Christofias win today,he seems more positive about finding a solution. But then again that could just be electioneering.I think papadopolous will shade it,results will be in at 20.30 hrs.
