Imagine this in England. We went to the chemist at Bellapais junction whilst on holiday a few years ago because our 12 year old daughter was covered in an itchy rash. It was closed so we walked across to the other one nearby and that was closed as well. We were just walking back to the house we rent, when a car stopped in the middle of the road and a Turkish lady beckoned us over. With basically no English she made us understand to get in there car and we would go to another chemist. We did this without thinking of any consequences. Eventually after about 30 minutes of riding around Kyrenia and several phone calls by the Turkish couple we arrived at a chemist. We had no idea where we were. After purchasing some cream, we were were about to leave, wondering how to get back to the house. The Turkish lady spoke to the chemist in Turkish and he told us that they would take us back to Bellapais junction. We were so over whelmed by there kindness. Could that happen in England? No way!!

Thanks for sharing that with us Aysesdaddy, another story that gives a great insight to the true nature of most of the TRNC locals.

Yes Cooper, hate to see the negative comments when there are so many great things about TRNC. Have been holidaying in Kyrenia for 27 years and just love the place, even gave our daughter a Turkish name, which causes lots of fun over in England and lots of questions when we are in Kyrenia.

Most real Turkish Cypriots are like this. We have the greatest TC neighbours anyone could wish to have.

We have only met very friendly Northern Cypriots on our visits, one of the reasons we are retiring to NC.

Whenever I come home carrying lots of shopping the children in the neighbourhood come running up and insist on carrying my bags for me. When he comes home from school the boy next door always asks if he can take my dog for a walk. Although we can hardly understand each other the TC lady who lives next door to us always has some nice comment. Where do you find this in the UK?

I think it was 1977. I was driving from Girne to Famagusta using the mountain road about 8 pm. Around Catalkoy we had a burst tire. I changed it with the spare but before long that was flat too. What do you do?

A local person stopped and wanted to help us. He took me in his car and then got a repairer from his home, went together to his shop, fixed my tire and took me back to my car. Of course he did not want to accept anything in return.

After about ten years the same man came to my wife's office with some court papers. He was sued by my wife acting as an advocate for a client. He recognised my wife and reminded her of the burst tire. Well, it was time to pay back the favour and she did not charge him any fee. Cyprus is a small place.

Why would you want to be riding around the hotel on a 'bicyle'?

Well thanks to the Turkish Cypriot people I have had some life changing experiences since I have been in the TRNC. Too complicated and too long to explain here but needless to say I am very happy and privileged to be living amongst my Turkish Cypriot neighbors.

Hi Gumball

The area around Pia Bella and Kyrenia is quite flat but can get very busy with traffic. It will be very hot in August, rather you than me. We go over in August and sometimes it feels too hot to walk never mind cycle. If you want good, reasonable priced English food go to Mollys, which is just down from Pia Bella, although we mostly eat local food and there are lots of good places about. Enjoy your hols.
