Msg 1, TheSaints: Thanks for the link!

Msg 2, Turbo: Do let us know if you find more 'news' that has nothing to with this thread about the TRNC elections. Remarkable to see that a TC like you is so deeply interested in the elections in your country.

Dear DC, re msg 1

Funny, I don't see you countering Ismet when he states the reality of "TRNC" politics ;)

RE msg 6, 6xm: Marky, I know it's early morning, but please read before you accuse: what have *I* to do with message 1?!

And as for Ismet: I find it always interesting to read Ismet's views and thoughts, but after his prediction of the outcome of the Parliament elections...

Ha DC, re msg 7

YES, I was referring to your msg FIVE.

Re Ismet.. you'll know - very well - I'm referring to his constant reminder that when it comes to a "settlement" THEY call the shots ;)

From the BBC report:

QUOTE

"Frustration at the slow progress of talks aimed at reuniting the island appears to have been a key element in this latest poll, the BBC's Tabitha Morgan reports from Cyprus."

UNQUOTE

Utter nonsense. The internal administration of the TRNC was the key element in the election results. If Ms Morgan had spent just a few seconds with TCs in any Northern coffee-shop in the run-up to the vote she would have realized that the CyProb was way down on the list of the electorate's concerns; somewhere between the price of barley-water and import regulations for tropical fruits.

Hi Gordon

I'm a little worried by my wonderful BBC and Cyprus reporting...

If you look Liealotopoulos and Denktator still feature - even though one is dead and neither are "President" ..

Come on BBC - pull your socks up.

Too true MM,

Seems Ms Morgan is on a stipend that doesn't extend to her actually carrying out any new journalism nor doing much more than cutting and pasting old reports.

I sometimes wonder how often she visits the North...

Ms Morgan probably hasn't even been to NC let alone think that anyone is actually bothered what she writes!!! after all to many Cyprus and its politics are hardly headline stuff.....unfortunately.

Dear AJ, re msg 12

I don't see the actual reporting of the events is any less "clueless" than the Beeb's - they still refer dissatisfaction with the talks - although the economy IS mentioned!

This quote:

"Everything will be easier if it is universally accepted that we are a nation and that we have a state,"

from Mr Eroglu

demonstrates that he doesn't seem to agree with Gordon - he seems to think the electorate have given him some sort of "mandate" to perpetuate the notion of "statehood" - you'd think after 35 years - and repeated proclamations from UN Security Council members - they'd get the message... :(

I rather think Mr Talat's quote:

"A government in [Northern Cyrpus] that seeks to scupper the talks will also be harming Turkey's EU accession process," he told Havadis, a Turkish Cypriot daily."

is more realistic...

I do not know why people seem worried about GC saying they will veto Turkey going into EU - France has come out publicly and said they are not wanted - who cares whether GCs veto it - will not happen. Good show UBP.

Re msg - 15 Rocking

the "rump" RoC have been threatening a Veto for a long time...esp on the issue of non compliance by Turkey to the Ankara Accord - you know a binding document TR signed - and has reneged on re all EU members having the right to overfly and ships to use it's ports.....

The RoC have not used it and IF they did - it would mean a swift end to the veto and use of maj voting in the EU..

France has also stated - many times - it would do this and do that - remember they said they would walk out of the G20 summit ?

TR will continue towards EU accession - the UBP - just like the RoC will not stop the progress...
