We have a problem in our apt with the sink/washing machine waste pipe in the wall of our en-suite. There is some sort of a foreign object (a plastic bag we think!!) in there that have been unable to get out so far!!

The washing machine inlet pipe links in to the pipe from the sink but because they are behind the tiled wall it's not as simple to just cut the pipe. As a consequence the sink is VERY slow to drain away and when the washing machine goes onto the 'drain' cycle the water pees back out and hisses with air!!

Does anyone know of a drain unblocking specialist (poss with remote drain Camera system) that could help? Don't know if they need some sort of probe or something to see exactly where (and what) it is but If I can't get it out it seems the only option is to run a new pipe from sink to connect washing machine etc which is going to look like a real Dog's dinner!!

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Try Mr Muscle or other sink unblocker, it works on most blockages leave it in the pipes longer than stated then run the water to clear the bockage. we use it mostly in the shower as the trap is hard to get to.It only costs about £3.00 and can save you the money calling out a plumber.

Hi Millzer,

This might sound stupid, but try working from the outside pipe in, you might have more access to the blockage or a straight run which you will be able to put a rod or long piece of wire up the pipe to help dislodge it. You might even come across the blockage.

Sorry can't be of more help.

Hi Millzer,

Last resort before plumber.

Caustic soda and boiling water. BE VERY CAREFULL AS IT WILL EXPLODE AND BLOW BACK.

If its plastic it should burn its way through. If not then I think you have something solid, cement etc dislodged itself since you have been using the sink/ machine and worked its way down.

millzer hi mate just to let you know i suffered exactly the same problem once.

The waste pipe from the sink to the soil pipe went too far down in to the soil stack. basically making the aperture of the soil stack a third of the size it should be.

This cost a fortune for a plumber to solve however when i watched him, very simple to resolve just wiggle the waste pipe up from the soil pipe 2 inches and have free flow.

Thanks. will get them to try the Caustic Soda idea. Wiggling won't work Lee as it in a bathroom and all fixed in the wall behind tiling! Thanks for the suggestion anyway though.
