Bill..If you and others who live in the North are worried about losing your properties,Why do you want unification to succeed? Surely you would be better off staying as you are ie two states, which would secure your property rights and dispel your fears.

Hi Coachie. I've not said that I want unification to succeed. In fact, personally, I'd rather it stayed as it was.

re msg 1

Well, what ARE the scenarios?

1/ TR annexes"TRNC"

2/ a deal is agreed by politicians - but declined by voters

3/ Mr Talat stands down , or is not re-elected before an agreement and a new ""TRNC" must be recognised as a state" precursor to any talks candidate becomes spokesman.

Whatever the scenario... Turkey would continue to be liable for property appropriation if it continued to be viewed as the effective power behind any "TRNC" "govt"..

ANYONE who thinks this isn't true - look at the period 2004- 2009 - the "TRNC" yes to Annan didn't change ECHR findings re property .. The UN Security council Resolution re "TRNC" legitimacy wont get overturned by China / Russia - unless there IS an agreement.

"TRNC" will continue in limbo - but TC citizens - and I mean REAL citizens - not TR mainlanders - remember the EU does NOT interfere with a state's ( and that is the RoC) rules on citizenship... ( check out the Russian non-citizens of Latvia / Estonia)

Dee,

Dont leave us in suspense like that!! on a purely selfish note I would like to know what way it may go so I know - do I need to save a fortune for animals to go in quarantine when I do go back to UK or will the North be in the EU??

The recession will continue to effect both north & south. Both will suffer greatly. Would a solution help both sides out of it?

Meanwhile UK disillusioned expats on both sides will continue to pack up/sell up and leave as quickly as they can. This will add to the recession. The tourism industry will continue to decline. The building industry will collapse. What will both sides governments do to help? Very little going on previous history.

What pressure will the UN, EU, US, Greece & Turkey bring to bear on the respective sides? Again very little.

If things don't change, then they will stay the same.

So has the election results made any difference?

I'm sorry if I'm being really stupid.

P

Don't worry, there are a lot more others that are posting at the moment that will end up looking far more stupid (not that you are by the way)
