The headline of this thread is pure fake. I apologize. But in order to attract attention to a serious subject one has to find a work-around. There are now 5044 members of this board. About 10-15 (wild guess) participated - happy or unhappy - in threads about the latest, all important elections in TRNC. Well, have a look at the cyprus44 Forums home page to find out what the swallows and expats here and temporarily abroad are really interested in. Obviously not in debating or commenting on TRNC politics. Very disappointing imo.

RE msg 2, 6xm > 1/ they couldn't vote <

=> Is that a reason not to be interested?! The new Government/Parliament is also "about us, but - if we know nothing about them - will be without us". I wonder how many expats have a clue what the UBP stands for. This way our only hope is that Marion Stokes c.s. and the BRS are more interested in the UBP election promises and acts than most of the board members. Well, let's see when the moaning and whinging about the new government begins...

> 2/ it makes no difference, really WHO won.. <

=> Wishful thinking, Marky. Nothing you have advocated, hoped for, predicted etc has come true for many years now. Nothing. So, dream on, you're highly amusing (for newbies on the board)...

You cleverley answered your own question in your first post!

99.5% of members do not participate in such threads purely BECAUSE they are populated by the usual suspects.

All professing to be 'well read', 'informed', 'intelligent?' etc. But all with widely divergent views on the past or the future, often with sarcasm.

Many posters, myself included, have tried giving input, only to be told 'You don't understand', or 'you should read more', or even 'you can't even spell'!

Not very condusive to attracting new posters on such threads!

I remember you had a go at me once for hijacking a thread!

Is this really that different?

I nearly fainted when I read the headline.

RE msg 7: OK, your "understatement" makes me think it's time to leave the debating arena then. Bye!

RE msg 8: I'm sure it's just a rumour... You may feel much better when you read the beginning of message 1 (again?). Bye!

Dear Hans,

re msg 2

You still haven't answered my Q , Hans .. a well respected TC member keps reminding us that:

a) TR holds the purse strings

b) re the CY Q - the solution will be along what TR - wants / not

c) UBP... DP.. they will not be able to deliver a better economic outlook - that depends on macro economics.. the Denktash - we are a state - mentality is NOT going to move things fwd..

As for the things I predicted not coming to fruition:

1/ I predicted TR would pay up ECHR fines re judgements on property - you told us they ( "TRNC") wouldn't

2/ I predicted the Gary Robb farce - weren't you one of the campaigners to have me banned for warning that it would all end in tears - and that no "govt" would help..?!

3/ I predicted the gates would open soon- in March 2003 - and they did ...were you one of those folk who said Mr Denktash would never permit it ? .. I think so..;)

4/ I predicted that the post Annan economic "boom" in "TRNC" would end in tears

( cont) from 12

5) I've predicted that Judge Jacks' decision in the Court of Eng and Wales was an incorrect interpretation of Protocol 10, and that it would end up with the ECJ - who will say differently - but there'll be a "twist"... we'll see soon..

6/ I even predict that there'll be a solution on the table that will involve leasehold rather than freehold - re disputed property.

There's a few more Hans... the main one being TR will join the EU and CY will be a bi-zonal federated state.. ;)

Folks, as a newbie to the forum I have to admit that in trying to get a better understanding of what is happening I am getting more confused than ever.

In any given political situation there are at least 2 sides and whoever you side with or against will determine your perspective on the situation and very often it will strongly influence your opinion. Marks comment in 16 seems to be as accurate as I can see "we are largely in disagreement on most things" but to me that's a good thing, at least I will be coming in with open eyes and besides that, please keep the debates going. I love the banter !!!

Hi Paul, re msg 17

AJ/ DC and I and a few others have been "banging heads" for six / seven years or more on these boards.

I wonder if you haven't missed the most "interesting" times... around the time of Annan / the "rump" RoC joining the EU back in April / May - despite the TC yes vote..

For me the highlight was the opening of the crossing points in April 2003 - and nightly watching the scenes as GCs / Tcs could visit the homes they had had to leave and how the "new" occupiers had kept their belongings and photos for nearly 30 years...

Scenes like that keep me believing - anything is possible !

Hope you'll enjoy the forum.

With Cyprus you never know ;)

I am sure I will enjoy it, thanx Mark and others.

I just read my own post again and realise I am being a little judgemental but that is not the intent. I enjoy reading both sides of the story because they are valid points and as I have explained in previous posts the move to NC is one I look forward to. The fact that due to modern technology I can communicate with the people living the life and not just reading about it from the so called experts.

I spent years believing I understood what was happening in Ireland until I actually went there and met some of the nicest and unbiased people ever.

Just goes to show that "Don't believe the Hype" can be a fairly accurate statement

RE msg 20, jurgen : Dag Jurgen!

Beste groet, Hans Doeleman

re your msg 21,

I think that's a bit unfair about Brit posters.

You asked a question and I gave a personal view of why more don't post. it wasn't meant to be a criticism of you personally, if that's how it came across,...

I apologise.

I think you would be surprised at the number of posters, me included, who read your threads, whether they are about politics, history or local knowledge.

I know you have a good sense of humour,..

don't go off in a huff!

Rob

p.s. We are over for a couple of weeks late May, does this mean we have to bring you some of those Belgian Beers?

Re msg 21 :

Dag Hans , fijn je terug te zien op 't forum ( ik had al gemerkt dat je terug reageerde oa op een artikel of was het advertentie : ) in de NY Times...

Vriendelijke groet , Jurgen
