Does anyone know about Wood Burning Stoves?

My Wife wants one in our Villa when it's complete, but not sure if there is much choice in TRNC.

Would like to have a look at some when we are over in March.

Any ideas.

Hi McSteviet

We were put in touch with an English guy by the name of Gary. He installs wood burning stoves in the NC. We met him when we were last there but unfortunately couldn't carry through because our builder insisted we do this once the unit is finished. He sells the Hunter range of wood burning stoves which comes from the UK. You can see their range on: http://www.hunterstoves.co.uk

He quoted us for the Herald 14, £1500. This was to include supply and installation. If you go to the Cyprus yellow pages:

http://www.cypyp.com/yellowg.htm there are several companies and it might be worthwhile shopping around.Gary's email address in the TRNC is:Gary & Sharon [gary@kktc.net]

Regards

Hi McSteviet

We've got a Wood burner installed.

They are brilliant. It stays in for days and really throws out the heat.

We brought ours over from UK. We gave our builder the specifications so he made sure the fireplace was large enough and also did the flue for it.

We looked at the ones being sold at the Property Centre but weren't too impressed with the ones they had (Villagers) as they aren't made from a very heavy iron whereas ours took four strapping men to lift into place!

We forgot to bring the fire cement with us so we got some from Greenium who used to be opposite Lemar in Karakum - they've now moved and I'm not sure where they have gone. The guy in Greenium was very helpful. He offered to come out to us to help instal the fire if we got into difficulty.

We would recommend Greeniums and they have moved to the parade of shops on the right past The Courtyard.

I can recommend AKINLAR LTD

SANKAR SK

48 OLIVIA APT GIRNE

TEL 03928151007.

Owner Mustafa Akin

I have just had a multi fuel stove installed 600 euros + 300ytl to fit it.

I looked at Greenium but their starting price was £750 .Just for the stove and it was only half as heat producing as the stove I got.

Akinlar have good choice starting from 300 euros.

The shop is about 500 yards after the Lefkosa roundabout in Girne on the right before the left hand bend which takes you to the roundabout .

Hi Milou

Ours is a Stockton multifuel (removable) with back boiler which you don't have to have connected if you don't want to.

We bought it in the UK from a company near Chippenham called R W Knight.

http://www.knight-stoves.co.uk/ total cost was under £900 and was really easy to fit.

Billy

Akinlar sounds reasonable. These stoves are now the In thing and some sellers are jumping on the bandwagon and inflating the prices.

Heard that if anyone gets caught chopping down trees for firewood they can end up in prison ?

The Olive factor on the road heading away from Bogaz sells fire logs made out of the remains of the stones from inside the olives.

Hi Berty

You should be able to get one made at any ironmongers. Just give them the spec and if possible a drawing of what you would like and they'll normally make it up for you.

Hi Berty

Can thourouthly recommend Akinlar Ltd. We had to have our fireplace enlarged to take the mid range log burner. An excellent job was done and the log burner is brilliant. Mustafa was very helpful and checked the work done by his guys.

We have recently knocked down our fireplace and replaced with a woodburner from Greenium. We bought the biggest one they had - the Suffolk Chichester which has a maximum output of 16kw. It cost £895 plus the flue and we installed it ourselves. Our fireplace was absolutely rubbish and didn't give out any heat unless you were practically sitting on top of it. We also had our chimney raised in height by about 1m to improve draw. It is great and really gives out a lot of heat especially if you keep it ticking over all night and perk it up in the morning. Our open plan living room stays at a constant 22 degrees without any effort at all. It's much cleaner and safer than the open fire and we can go out and leave it without worrying. If you are still in the build stage and your fireplace hasn't been done yet I would definitely recommend just having a freestanding burner instead. We looked at UK prices on the web and found them to be broadly the same as here so not worth the hassle of importing.

Morning all,

well i have taken a lot of bad press latley because i speak as i find but lets see if i can help you out on this matter of stoves, i have recently done the rounds pricing and looking at all the various models and there + - points and it depends on your budget i went to the two local shops ie grienums and the turkish one on the left on the way to the main round about this is by far the best both for cost and helpfulness, he has agood range in stock and they are vastly cheaper than his competion. note his are priced in euros i decided to fit my own thinking it looked a simple task it isent quite as simple as you think but hey its in now and looks and performs very well . the English guy at Grienums is greedy for £££ the turkish the opposite and when he could have charged me extra he replied no charge you are my customer and i will continue to help all i can (Nice aint it the way things used to be) example the english guy told me you could only get the sealant needed from him £8.00 per tube ,after a few enquiries diffreant label same content 7.5 YTL belive me i know there is not a lot of choice but save yourself some money and go turkish. ps they are great never been so warm

Hi Artoned

Does the shop you favour stock a large supply of various rope sizes as well because ours will need changing eventually and I did wonder whether it was worth bringing over a couple of meters from the UK.

This is a genuine question and I am sorry if I'm wasting your time asking it

Thanks

I saw a roll of rope in Akinlar but don't know what size it was.

The majority of the stoves we saw in Akinlar were Chinese made. Also, they were made of pressed steel rather than cast iron. I don't know if this makes any difference to build quality etc. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal choice, budget, etc.
