Just how many Turkish folk have arrived in Cyprus?

I, for one, have never trusted the "census" figures and nor do most TCs..

I quote a TC..

http://www.ykp.org.cy/population/populationatnorthernpartofCyprus.pdf

page nine.. "the number of Turkish citizens in north Cyprus is probably not around 120,000 as calculated from the census of 2006; it is between 220,000 and 230,000"..

Some interesting data - re cars registered, mobile phones in use and "official" "TRNC" data showing TR arrivals / departures shows up some very "interesting" irregularities re the reported number of Turks

It is a long document - and no doubt there are those who will claim it is from a "lunatic fringe of lefties" .. OK, so all I ask is that you read it and attempt to discredit the methodology they use to arrive at their figures..

Also, I never knew that the "TR embassy" in "TRNC" handled "citizenship" .. have I misunderstood the translation?

Dear 6xm: I write this message # 1 out of compassion. It looks like nobody is interested in your nonsense. Well, try something different (again). With a little help from your friends...: UN, ECHR, EU, border, Green Line, border crossings (I bet you cannot resist this last suggestion...)?

reading this document i think they have a few things wrong.

the population of so called turkish workers in the construction industry don't come from turkey. they may be kurdish, afgani, iraqi ect ect.

we have had loads of workers doing stuff at our house and talking to them they admit they are not turks.

those they call settlers, well i know at least 4 who live elsewhere and had no intentions of voting here, they hate the place (even though they still hold the right to vote.)

i think they also forget the fact that the land they gave out(gc land), the tc's were given kochans and the settlers had a ten year struggle to get kochans for the land they live on. so they did them no big favours.

they also say that the settlers came from south east turkey, where did they get that from? because most of my turkish friends came from either north or west turkey.

i think these speakers need to get out more, so i wouldn't trust their figures either.

Hi FS, re msg 5

If you remember there were LOADS of Turks working in "TRNC" - no one seemed to mind - when there wan't enough work the "govt" made a big thing of pointing out how the illegal workers were being sent back !

I hardly think your house project is hardly indicative of a "flawed" conclusion - it's hardly a huge sample ;) !

I know one of the contributors' offspring - both he and the offspring are highly educated and articulate and they get out a lot. The son has a PhD and has studied in the US and Spain.. they are a smart, friendly, TV family.

Take care

I know thta a lot of turkish cypriots were worried about the elections thinking that Turkey would influence it and advise the settlers from Turkey to vote pro- religious and pro akp .

When ubp won , followed by ctp- I realised that turkish cypriots still hold the majority of votes in this country. So Its not as bad as it looks. (even though I dont support ubp myself I know that Turkey also doesnt support them.)

mmmmm,

you only have to go into lefkosa where all those workers hang out and talk to people, most aren't mainland turkish. even our tc friends are shocked as they also believed that they were turkish until they found out different.

(this also happens in iran, people have iranian papers and live there for years then when a crime is commited the police discover that they are from elsewhere, apparently it happens all the time. )

Dear F/S re msg 8

I believe the report is more in depth than a survey of workers on street corners ;)
