Hi,

my friends are moving to N.C. and would like to start their own business.

Do you know anywhere premises ( 50-60 sq m) to rent out ?

Sounds like a great idea T.R.N.C needs more catering outlets.

There just isn't any help here for small business's. The retail units might start at a reasonable rent then for some insane reason after a year, along comes the Land owner and doubles the rent. small business cn't just double the customers, hence business closes. Why couldn't the Landlords freeze rent for say at least 2 years to give the proprietor a bit of a chance.

There was talk a few months back that the govt was going to place a law which would limit the amount a rental could be increased, it would be a % of the rent. I am not sure what the out come of that was.

You can also get it put in your contract how much rent will increase. The property I rent has it that the rent will increase 10% each year. On my rental contracts for our property it is 15%.

You should be able to get a contract for at least a 3 or 5 years, if you lucky or at least a renewable one with the same conditions.

Between Karshiyaka and Chatalkoy there are around 700 empty shop premises so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one.

Have your friends actually visited NC lately? Thought of a business plan perhaps? Done any research? Just hate to see yet another failed business.

it is always a good idea to open a business where ever it is but ..... IT HAS TO BE WISELY THOUGHT because now a day crisis is there - in NC as well - it does means that you mustn't do it but analize the " yes and the " no - you must know the cutry, the need and the faisability of your business , administration with taxes - tha's is why so many business are falling - they just open thinking that the money coming in is benefit - i am on business since 1983 in france but i wouldn't start anything in NC today - but if wise enough, believe in it and not afraid to work very hard , has money to survive a while until it works to make living then go......

My friends are coming next month, never been here before.

I tried to explain them it would be an easy task but they are very keen on it.

They like the idea of opening a small bar in Girne harbour ( 24/7) that is the only thing I know.

Thank you Sylvie, I never stopped them to think about this idea but always told : Be carefull, think , speak to people/ bar owners, walk around , compare and only after that come to a conclusion.

But anyway, thank everybody for your replies.
