I am pretty sure that they're open, you could try ringing one of the insurance kiosks at Metehan - +35722770319.

Remember to check that your substitute road tax certificate needs to be in date, and I don't think that the office is open on Saturdays any more.

Fred8 - just don't mention "border" to a GC - they may well "bump" up your premium

They ( along with the UN, et al) refer to it as the "Ayios Dometios crossing point"

Despite your protestations you are not going to change peoples attitudes.

Accept it and live with it, Is that so hard for you to do?

Dear AJ, re msg 7

IF someone is going to ring a tel number in the "rump" RoC - my advise is extremely sound .. referring to Metahan and the B word is ill advised if you want a good deal...

re msg 8 harita

"Hope your Greek road tax is valid" ..what has Greece to do with Cyprus ?!

Dear AJ, re msg 7

I should add that I don't refer to Tymbou - or Greek ( as in the language) place names when taking with TCs and when I'm in the "TRNC".. and if you note I even try to spell Limas(s)ol in the TR style and refer to Girne / Kyrenia.

It's a matter of common sense - if not politeness.

Harita, I spend a lot of my time asking people to realise the GCs aren't after Enosis any more..... I'd like see all "mother" country flags "banned" from Cyprus....

Calling them "Greek" is actually something that would make some extreme GCs smile.... :(

Dear Sylvie, re msg 17

My advice was VERY relevant- try ringing your average GC - asking for help - referring to Metahan and the "border" and see how "helpful" they'll be ! ;)

6m

Did in fact telephone (msg 2) and use the word 'metahan synoro' (Metahan border) in my broken Greek; was politely told the

insurance kiosk would be open.

Not many, I am afraid we normally do go out our way to look for them especially in the old turkish quarters

There are literally hundreds of mosques to see in the RoC. Many of the very old ones have been beautifully restored, with work on a lot of the others underway. Apart from the big mosques in the towns there are some delightful tiny ones out in the countryside and the villages.

Thanks Fred, I have looked briefly but haven't seen any...though I am assured there are hundreds by Border and Juliet.
