Not one for having a go, but I think this is deserved. Went for a shave at the barbers shop in Girne, just down from the car park at the top of the high st, walk down hill turn right after Cafe rouge (Cafe) and the first barber shop on the left. I always go when I'm over and its a bit of a lucky dip, you never know what you will get, Shave, Facial hair waxed, ear and nose hair singed, massage, neck and fingers cracked, shampoo, face washed etc. Its good fun and a good experience when you have mates over. Anyway I went with a mate last week, we were talked into the works by, I think the owner, Fantastic job (even if the waxing hurts, Dont know how you ladies do it all the time!) I had the same done at new year and it cost 25ytl. More than I pay for just a shave at the local village barbers, but fine. Anyway instead of the paying the barber as usual, this bloke came over and said as we had had everything done it would be 50ytl. I know I should have questioned him but as I was with a mate that hadn't been before and I wasn't sure what I'd paid at new year until asking the wife when I got home, I thought better of causing a scene. looking back he was asking my mate if he was on holiday, had he been to the barbershop before and other questions, all lining us up for the tuck up. Shame really, cos' I always go there and usually take whoever is with me and it has really left me with a bad taste, even though the service is really good, I wont return, and I'm on here moaning about them, so it will be the lads who suffer for the greed of the owner. So watch out, ask the price!

In a moment of recklessness i had my face 'attended to' by a man with that bit of string between his teeth and fingers and i have to say it made my skin feel great!! Better than any moisturiser! And no charge!

I think that the rule of thumb here is always negotiate the price beforehand. I have learned this after being turned over a couple of times in Gulf states. Bob.

I am really disgusted to hear your story James, I use the place as my own barber and will have words with them, a hair cut is 10ytl if you get extras like wash add 5ytl, wax add 5ytl shave add 5ytl, there is a price board up but its in Turkish as one would expect

Yes Greg, I have used them lots of times, never seen this guy before, spoke with a london accent, but said he'd never been but married a girl from Croydon. Cant fault the lads or the service, just the tuck up! Live and Learn!

I had a similar experience when my friend who lives in NC took us to his barber, suddenly the price had gone up. Down Girne main street, cross roads turn left and immediately on the right. There is a builders/plumbing shop just past it. It's another example of one price for NC's and another for the rich tourists/expats I'm afraid. They lost a regular client because of that. Martin
