Hi All,

We had our beautiful dog, Daisy, poisoned today around the Emerald Bay construction site in Lapta. Fortunately, we were able to get her to the vet and she was put on a drip for an hour or so and we thankfully have her back home now recovering.

I know a lot of people walk their dogs down here so thought you should be aware. We had always considered it 'safe' down there but, needless to say, Daisy will be adorning a muzzle from now on.

I will be contacting KAR to let them know too. Please be careful people.

There seems to be a lot of posionings in recent weeks, largely in the Bellapais area but it seems that none of us are immune.

Cheers,

Anna.

spanna - so sorry to hear about Daisy - do hope she'll make a full recovery. I don't live full-time in TRNC but we are both animal lovers. There seems to be an epidemic of dog poisioning recently. It doesn't seem confined to any particular area, which makes it more worrying. I appeciate that the poor homeless dogs can be a nuisance, but surely there must be a humane solution which ultimately means loved family pets meet this dreadful fate. I have read on numerous occasions that KAR do not support the humane killing of strays, but the way things are going of late, perhaps a re-think may be in order? Surely there can be nothing worse than indiscriminate poisoning - agony for the poor bloody animals concerned?

Rant over!!

These stories really cut me up every time. Spanna I am glad your baby is ok now. My neighbour has just taken in 2 abandoned puppies and another of our neighbours has actually IN PERSON threatened to poison them if she doesn't re-home them soon.

If anyone wants one (or both) please leave a note here and I will contact you.

The Wicks

I think you will find that it is the Vets who do not support the humane killing of stray dogs.

Quarmby it would seem it is better to let these poor creatures fend for themselves..that seems to be the policy here and No1 with that policy is KAR!!

Good morning Dee, have a good time at the dog show, or perhaps you are one of the volunteers giving their time for free helping to raise money for the animals of the TRNC.

quarmby

i think its a muslim thing.

i had to have one of my dogs put to sleep as she had a brain tumor, the vet said lots of prayers before doing it.

we reasured him that it was the decent thing to do, even though i cried buckets for two days.

hI i hope Daisy makes a good recovery. Im sure she will . FS there is a new book out in Uk about grieving for your pets. They have just discovered how very hard it hits us. How I would love to shove the poison down the throats of these bxxxxxxs. Sorry to miss the dog show today was hoping to enter BJ in the rescue section. You know I have taken another one now xxxxxxx

Hi all,

Thanks for so many kind comments... She's doing really well and we are so grateful to have her alive and well.... We were sorry to miss the rugby yesterday and the dog show today but we have an almost healthy dog to show for it - so can't complain!

Thanks again to everyone... Daisy sends some very sloppy kisses to you all!

Thank you for the information and I hope Daisy is OK. We walk our dog at Emerald Bay and will avoid it now, maybe you saved his life. We have already lost 1 dog ( Daisy) to poison, died a miserable and painful death, one cat went the same way and another missing since Jan ( Emerald Bay area) presumed poisoned. It is a perilous life here for a pet.

I am happy for you, that your dog is better.

I would not know who to call, should it happen to my dog. (Bella Pais area)

Can you help? I do have a vet, but phone closed week-ends etc.

Hi Banjo,

We actually ended up taking Dasiy to a new vet near you called Pet Life - it has only been open 3 weeks and I believe they work with Firdez, another vet just behind Pia Bella, to ensure full coverage at the weekends... The vet at Pet Life is called sibel and her number is 05338687670. The number for Firdez is 05338663806. They are both excellent and speak good English. I would highly recommend either.

Good luck to all... as Pogle said 'it is a perilous life for a pet'...

Spanna. X

Hi Moomin

I might be interested. Can you tell what kind of dog it is.

As far as poison is concerned, that would be a matter for the police, would it not?

Spanna, So glad Daisy is on the mend, poor little darling. Where actually is Emerald Bay in Lapta??

It is awful that both much loved pets and the poor strays are subjected to this horrendous act. I can understand some people saying that the strays are a nuisance but they are only stray and homeless due to mans irresponsibility and neglect.

After attending the Dog Show yesterday, I was so surprised to see that the majority of pedigree dogs here are owned by locals.

Hi Amber,

Emerald Bay is an appartment site - partly still under construction on the sea front to the west of Hotel Sempati... There is a walk from Emerald Bay right the way along to Karsiyaka... It is used a lot by both local walkers and dog walkers alike. There are also numerous families living along the route... Even as a dog owner, you are right, the strays can be a real nuisance but there are most definitely better methods of dealing with problem strays. Poison, unfortunately, as we have painfully discovered, is indiscriminate. Let's hope a solution is reached before too long.

Take care...

Hi Spanna very pleased to hear Daisy is recovering from her ordeal. Can I just confirm that Emerald Bay is by the polytunnels as my husband walks our dog Charlie there most days.
