I must add that the whole experience was greatly enhanced by the very kind and professional ministrations of the midwife at Airedale hospital. She was great. As Cruggs quite rightly puts it, childbirth is a strangely impotent experience for men to go through. We feel disparate from a painful ordeal for our other halves.....wanting to take away the pain, but unable to do so. We are there, but not really there, as we are observers and comforters.....when no comfort is really forthcoming......until the end ! Then what joy.Vicki's face lit up when she saw him for the first time and he coughed his first breath of life. Its moments like those which linger in the cortex fortunately, as the pain of delivery melts away....for both parties concerned.

Congratulations to you both, and a huge welcome to baby Benjamin. I was moved to tears by your posting (20). Your sentiments and words really touched me, and took me/us back 35 years ago when our first son Antony was born......all repeated a couple of years later when son number two, Nick came along. Enjoy every moment, they grow up too quickly! xx Julie

Congratulation Iain & Vicky - wish you all the joy in the world with Ben. PS chinaeyes - my son, too, started eating at around 11 years and doesn't seem to have slowed down. He's 28 now and still looks like a beanpole. J
