I will be changing the resolution of Cyprus44 website in the next few days and started with Forums section.

In the last 30 days, the percentage of visitors who use resolution of 800x600 is less than 3%.

So, it should not affect a lot of visitors and I expect most of visitors feel positive about it.

The website will be using 960 pixel width that fits on 1024x768 just fine and is the most widely used resolution for websites nowadays.

I see that you invested in some of that 'banded' computer print-out paper as well

No expense spared!

Izzet,

Unless something has just gone wrong with my computer (which I wouldn't rule out!) the threads on the Forum are now alternately 'banded' - just like computer print-out paper.

You know, it makes it easier to follow a line of print from left to right across the page...

Don't tell me that you hadn't noticed!

Keith.

Ohh I see what you mean now.

You're right. I think we will get used to it very soon. I took about a day during testing period and it was no longer uncomfortable.

from time to time we delete threads that take noticeably large space that are also not useful.

we deleted a few threads that had some 500 posts but not really useful.

such as the "scramble" thread posted a few months ago.

if you posted heavily on such threads, because they do not exist now, your post count may have gone down a lot.

we need to delete such threads from time to time to save disk space as the database is growing rapidly.

nevertheless, i can assure everyone that we do not delete any useful threads.

Cooper,

your 'screen resolution' is probably set to 800x600, the new setup needs something like 1024x768 (or higher).

If your monitor is VERY old, or if you're using a 12" laptop, then you may not be able to do anything about it.

However, to change your screen resolution, do the following: -

Minimise any open windows, 'right click' on the blank desktop, and select 'properties' from the pop-up menu.

A 'dialogue box' entitled 'display properties' should appear - click the top right hand 'tab' marked 'settings' (it may already be 'selected'...)

In the bottom left part of the box is a slider entitled 'screen resolution' - the numbers underneath tell you your current setting. Now left click on the slider, and slowly drag it to the right until it says 1024x768 pixels, 'let go' and then click 'apply' then OK, then OK.

Job done!

If the screen disappears after you click 'apply', don't do anything at all - it will come back after a few seconds.

Keith.

Izzet, I have just noticed 'views' which tells us how many people have looked at a post. How much more helpful is this, and what is the reason behind it?

ClaireCat44,

There are ways of increasing the size of icons, 'system text' (the wording under icons, and at the top of windows, and in menus etc), and also the actual text in messages such as this.

However, it starts to get a bit more complicated, and the precise steps required depend greatly on what operating system you are using - e.g. win98, ME, 2000, XP, VISTA - and which Browser, - Explorer, Firefox (& version thereof!). And even THAT assumes that you are using an IBM-compatible PC & Windows! (I do know that you are, really, otherwise the first set of instructions wouldn't have worked!)

So I'm afraid that it is not possible to give a 'one-size-fits-all' set of instructions to impove the visibility / readability of your screen.

If you're having real difficulty with the reduced size of objects and text on your screen, post on here and I'll email you.

Keith.
