Hello all,

Can you tell us, how much are the buses? Is it 3tl per journey? Or is it less if you only go a short way? Can you use your ticket stub on more than one journey in a day? We know it is 3.50tl to go from girne to lefcosa each way. We are a tad confused by it all. Also does anyone know what times past the hour the buses run from Karsiyaka- the furthest stop up?

Thanks everyone

Hello

Buses (or Dolmushes as they're known here) don't operate like in the UK. There is no timetable and there is no ticket stub. Along the main roads you usually only have to wait 5 to 10 minutes for one to come along and you flag it down where ever you are - no fixed stops as you then ask them to stop where you want to get off.

Not sure of the fares as I've only used them a couple of times. I think there's a minimum fare of 2tl then it goes up depending on where you're going. You pay for each journey, there's no day tickets.

Hope that helps a little, I'm sure someone will be able to fill in the gaps

If you're walking along the side of the road, and a white transit van or similar starts hooting at you, it's probably just a Dolmuş driver, touting for trade!

If you happen to be driving behind one, be aware that they tend to slow down at most intersections - not for safety reasons though - they like to look down the road to see if any potential customers are walking their way! - And if there are - the driver jams his brakes on, and pulls over pretty sharpish.

Scary!

Keith.
