Buy - British or local products - in the North! Don't support the RoC (Rest of Cyprus) by buying in the South. Let the shops in the South feel how expats in the North feel about their efforts to "fraternize". Fly to/from Ercan, not to Larnaca. Let's put our money where our mouths are - here. In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, TRNC/KKTC.

Your idea DutchCrusader is a fine idea and should be applauded. BUT....Market prices determine where people buy their goods. Market prices are always the determining feature for everyone.

Friends of mine who live in Folkstone go shopping in Calais as it works out either the same, or slightly cheaper, than going into the local supermarket.

Your right dc we have been out 3 times and twice we have flown into Ercan.

But it so long for us Scots sometimes 16 hours so this time the south wins

But for all those people who bring in their own house hold good from home shame on you. We should all do our bit and buy TRNC.

RE msg 5, Dixie Normus: My suggestion: go to the South (and stay there) where you're obviously not ripped-off. You want the best of both worlds, don't you? In the current situation it's called a lack of backbone.

Hi DutchCrusader surely you know that most countries offer their citizens certain freedoms, such as speech and movement and therefore you should appreciate that people have the right to choose for themselves where to shop and what services are best quality for money, money which they have earned. Surely we all contribute to the Norths economy by just living here. Your suggestion go South and stay there is unnecessary. Are you telling everybody on the Forum that all your money is spent in TRNC?

I'm happy to stay north and shop, for financial reasons only.

I worked out the costs of a shop down south and it didn't stack up,what with fuel, south insurance and the massive strength of the euro.

The only advantage with the south is the bigger variety compared with here. I came here to live and absorb the culture,to me that means eating and living like a local. If I wanted to have fry ups and sunday roasts,I'd have stayed at home in the UK or gone to live in Spain or some other horrid expat abomination.

Hi keithr,

I totally agree with you, I cannot understand this shopping in the south need. If you cannot do without certain english products that are only available in the south, why did you move to a foreign country in the first place?

I can find everything I need in the north.

RE msg 13, sylvie > do you know that most TC are in the south to shop during the w-end ! <

=> Well, I for one didn't know and find it more than hard to believe. Can you give some figures and your source? When you stick to your amazing statement it means that on a Saturday I only meet expats and Turks in TRNC. Hmmm...

PS. Just my opinion: we need more facts and less rumours/gossip on this board.

Given that the situation here is due solely to the EU not keeping promises regarding free trade and ending embargos allowing direct flights etc following the TC acceptance of the EU backed Annan plan, should we not be talking about boycotting the bloody Europeans. Those same unaccountable Europeans that let the ROC join the club despite the oxi vote re the Annan plan. Additionally it was the self same Europeans that came up with the cross border justice system that ensnared the Orams.

What have the Europeans ever done for us?

sylvie,

i always take my tc friends south shopping when i go.

many tc's work in the south also, we meet people we know all the time.

it is only those stuck in a time warp that think shopping in the south is being a traitor!

as an e.u citizen i feel it is my right to spend my money where ever i please.

RE msg 26, fire_starter > funny, today i saw you dutch posting on a gc website. pity you don't practice what you preach! <

=> I did indeed. Not a secret, eh? And what reading a GC board has to do with my plea to buy in the North is beyond me.

And what's even more "Roseandchan", *your* nickname on that board, full of disgusting stupid people, who mainly shout, swear and threaten TC's and EU citizens: I collected and downloaded all your posts (a little less than 1000) and it proves without any doubt your compassion with your fellow-Brits. How you must hate them!

If you would like me to do it: I'll be pleased to explain how Brits and other expats in the North can read your hot-red hate for them ( http://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus-chat.html)

May I suggest we leave each other in peace from now on?

don't you ever threaten me,

from the day you came and spoke to me on this forum you have slagg and slandered me, you won't drive me from anywhere.

you are just showing yourself as a jealous sad creep, who thinks they can threaten people out of business.

if you feel the need to give out personal info on people, two can play at that game.

maybe i should tell everyone what you and your pals have been up to?

but then thats not my style, i don't need to slander other business's to get on.

as for leaving each other in peace : you made this personal, and thats how i have taken it.

i will be seeing you.
