While i was unable to log on to cyprus44 i had a look at a gc forum, the amount of crap that is said on that forum is unbelieveable, i really do honestly hope there is not a solution, im gobsmacked ive never seen anything like it.

I too stumbled upon something very nasty whilst searching forums, I was absolutely appalled at what was being said! Nor will it ever! I used to browse that site occasionally, and it has to be said that there is sometimes the sign of a brain hidden away, but generally it is unbelievable garbage. Hope mmmmmm enjoys his time on there.

From what I could see when browsing the GC forum, I would say that a large majority of the posters seemed to be Brits. What shocked me most, I think, was the fact that nothing appeared to be 'out of bounds' - personal insults, religion, pi.s taking, etc. I'm not shocked by bad language, but there is a limit, surely?

DD - couldn't agree with you more. I was appalled by some of the things I read and the manner in which they were written. If that represents the ex-pat community in the South, I'm glad I'm not one of them!! It's probably no wonder that the ROC has such a terrible reputation (as a holiday destination) and that every summer we have incidents reported about what goes on there.



Britvic - agree, they do seem to have quite a bit of information about certain members of this board.

Judging whole communites based on a forum like cyprus-forum.com is not a good idea. It attracts and encourages extreme indivduals and extreme posts from non extreme indivduals. It is a totaly distorted view of either community as a community.



Whilst it does have formal rules these are not enforced to any real degree. About the only two thing that will bring any consistent moderation and eventual bans would be 'promoting' (that is mentioning) sites that could be considered to be competition to it or advertising property for sale in the North. Just about anything else is acceptable there in practice.



The site is commerical and the sad fact is that wild childish unrestrained insulting and name calling masquerading as debate attracts more posters and viewers than a site that restiricts such to any real degree and the indivudal running this commercial site knows this.

Well, perhaps not, although one cannot, for the life of one, see why not. If one can type a capital letter, let's say an "O" why the heck cannot one type an "I"?. And surely "i'l" should read "I'll"?



Still, perhaps one is being "picky"?



On the subject of punctuation, should not "please please" read "please, please". I do not think the word "and" requires a comma before it? Please correct me if I'm wrong, my dear. One cannot be too careful, can one, when it comes to English grammar? J

Must admit it was interesting to read some of the stuff on the cyprus-forum. Many members are down as professors and lecturers! I feel sorry for the students that are taught the twisted thoughts of these people.



It was also nice to see Juliet and the others on their home site bleating on about being thrown off this forum for no real reasons! " Lord Haw Haw" the leader of the anti TC agenda is in high office there!!!.



This forum was mocked (big deal) and some real disgusting things put on about it. I suspect the success of this site is a thorn in the side of the sads idiots that post all this garbage. (this does not apply to the many genuine people who use the site) One member was boasting about hacking in to this site and gave a pass word to get into it. We are all known as OINKS!....anyone that disagrees gets filthy insults about the family etc.

Cyprus Forum award titles according to the number of postings made by participants, Lecturers and Professors titles mean nothing.



It is the main ROC BB site and therefore has the most number of infiltrators from the TRNC and other north side BBs.



Strangely enough, some of their most strident GC posters are members of this BB and other TRNC BBs working under cover.



I sometimes fall about laughing at some of their postings about , "TRNC thieves and carpet baggers!" when the author of the posting is at their laptop, sitting having a cold beer on the patio of their villa in Catalkoy.



One particular vehement GC female {no names no pack drill), who funnily enough, many of the CF BB are wary of, had a right go at old Pikey aka Eric Seans, a little while ago on that BB, when she actually lives about a 100 yards away from him in his old Police Inspector's house in Girne.

Actually Lemtich it would claim to be a bi-communal forum and to welcome contributions from members of both communites as well as non cypriots.



At one time I and a handful of other TC were were even appointed moderators on it along with the likes of the ever so progressive (not) Piratis, though the 'experiment' did not last that long.



The owner and ultimate controller of it is a GC and barring a few excpetions to be fair to him as such he remains pretty unbaised in the running of the forum in the sense that he allows the posting without censure of vitriolic spiteful aggresive and abusive posts from any perspective.



For me the main problem with the site is not that is a RoC / GC site so much as it is a site where unfortunately reasoned and especially conciliatory postings are overwhelmed by extreme and abusive posts, thus underming it ability to play a role as a space where cypriots of both communites can have meaningful discussion.

I suspect that the person who owns and runs the site knows the way it is currently run limits is usefulness as a place where cypriots can have meaningful discussions as he also knows that from a commerical point of view it is 'page impressions' to the site that matter and that abuse vitriol and extreme posts are more 'interesting' than serious reasoned discussion and not only does the way he run it set this tone but I also believe he actively promotes such 'interest' via posting as a 'normal' member as well, without disclosing that he is the actual owner fo the site.
