Warning: one can only foresee the future if one knows the history. Or: know the mentality of your enemy/future "friends".

Quiz-01. Question: who said it and which organization was he referring to?

"Until this small Turkish community that forms part of the Turkish race which has been the terrible enemy of Hellenism is expelled, the duty to the heroes of ............ cannot be considered as terminated."

Well done, TheSaints! (5 points on your list; 3 for The-Wicks (being second to respond. No complaining email please!).

Answer: Makarios, "the man of god" (who met his maker long since, who of course is a GC also), speaking in his native village Panayia (September 4, 1962). Just two years after he 'solemnly' signed the (Zürich and) London treaty.

He was addressing Makarios and the person uttering it, well it could be Grivas or Papadopoulos, the late president, in reference to his Akritas Plan.

Answer;

In an interview with the Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci, Makarios said how Ioannides (a Greek officer in the Greek contingent on Cyprus) and Nikos Sampson, a bloody EOKA terrorist leader responsible from the "execution squads" of EOKA, came to him one day in 1964 and told:

"Your Beatitude, here is my project. To attack the Turkish Cypriots on the island, and eliminate them to the last one

Makarios the well known terrorist..who it would appear had a penchant for young boys according to one poster on the greek cyp..yuk..forum...

Now why doesn't that surprise me...a paedophile man of god...and he is hero worshipped.

TheSaints - thanks for that. Paul said "Oh Yes, Sampson - forgot about him. If it wasn't Grivas it had to be Sampson" Easy with hindsight, eh?

Still, original answer not too far wide of the mark if the esteemed Mr Elko thought it might have been him too.

Don't give up, Bill. I'll start a quiz just for you. First question: the name of the Dutch Chelsea manager is Guus Hiddink. What is his name?

Back to the serious business. Conservative, Brit, Walter, surname starts with E.

I see what you're up to here, TheSaints - with your Dutch slant on spelling (message 53) it is my belief that you are currying favour with our Dutch Quizmaster!

I feel disqualification is called for!

Hans - I'm sure I don't know what you mean! However, I do know of a nice apartment for sale at a knock-down price (pardon the play on words). Everything straight and above-board, no mortgage on land, etc. etc. etc.
