Twenty minutes ago my husband saw a greek reg car pull up by the house next door and the driver got out and started to video the houses on both sides of the road,my husband challenged them and they drove off,my TC neighbour rang the police

10 minutes later they came back and were asked what they wanted and why were they filming, the driver replied "this is my aunt,s land" and drove off again, the police have just arrived and they have the reg and description of the car

RE msg 1, batgirl: It's very unlikely that any Greek ever owned land in what is now called Karsiyaka. Foreign visitors (from the RoC) in The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are usually Greek (speaking) Cypriots. Just for the record.

I'm sure you didn't mean to be pedantic Dutch but you are correct to emphasise that these are Cypriots (greek speaking) travelling freely within their country.

However,I must admit that these visits may be the start of a worrying trend for anyone who has bought on esdeger land.

RE msg 5, cronos > these are Cypriots (greek speaking) travelling freely within their country. <

=> Yes, it's very satisfying that foreign visitors have nothing to fear in TRNC. Yet. Because I'm sure foreign visitors from the RoC would better not try to change or provoke the course of history in TRNC on their own.

It might be a good idea to keep the local police number to hand and at the first sign of any harrasment by any GC's, put in a call.

If the police haven't been able to track them down, I'm sure the guys on the border might have a word with them on their way out. "F**k-off and don't come back", springs to mind.

Come on everyone, the GC's have been filming/photographing since the opening of the borders and in all that time how many court cases have there been? Most of the filming is for showing neighbours and friends what they did have.

Now we are seeing coach loads of them and every GC car is suspect, did we verify that the coach load were in fact GC'c or maybe they were tourists from the other side having a tour round.

This paranoid behaviour is just what the GC's want, oops must go just seen a GC registered ufo land.

Take it easy

Too true codger

"WATCH OUT , WATCH OUT , THERE'S A GC ABOUT !"

Let's not stir up fear and paranoia , otherwise you'll have GC registered vehicles subject to the same mindless vandalism as TC reg cars in the South.

Batgirl.....msg 14

If it IS in fact their aunt's land then shouldn't they have a right to film it?

At least that is all they were doing.

Perhaps they needed the footage as evidence for any claim to the IPC?

Surely we all knew that this was coming?

The pity is that they have to do this covertly.

Let's not panic and start getting paranoid.

Hopefully common sense will prevail.....undeveloped land to be returned to the rightful owner...and compensation to be paid to the rightful owners of land that has since been developed by others.

Agree with cronos also. Events like this will occur more often now. It's just scaremongering, ignore them, better still start videoing them!

Nige.....the enjoyment of those human rights should not be mutually exclusive to claiming rightful compensation .

from what i've read tc's are trying to make claims to their land in the south but it has to go via the ROC courts as we are not recognised here, and it is being stopped. some have been trying for 5 years. it seems the gc's want their cake and eat it! they don't know how to be fair.

Naughty Nigere msg 18

as you well know TCs have come forward and have been handed back their property .. The law requiring residency in the "rump" RoC is not fair..

Now.. the GCs CAN try this at Turkey's IPC.. there has been cases were uninhabited land has been returned..

I'm STILL waiting to hear of a case were the GC has had the present occupiers rehousd to allow them to take up residence..

Now aren't this TCs "brave" wanting to return to a place full of "Murdering GCs".. and Brits and Russians.. ;) ?

Just driving about this morning looking about at the landscape and all the buildings. Find it really hard to believe that somebody would be able to find their land especially after 35years. Crikey I am still trying to find a villa we saw in 2004 before this one and cannot find the road!! Hope the GC's have lots of petrol in their tanks!!!!

Re Msg #22: there are two cases of apts near Palm Beach in Famagusta where the GCs paid mainliner Turks who were living there sums of money to vacate the property. The GCs concerned now use the properties as holiday homes, and rent them out to Brits in the summer. I hope they are paying KKTC tax on those rents!

I met one of them on the beach last summer, he claims they own the properties, having inherited them from their (now deceased) parents who fled south in 1974. He told me there were several such cases, but that the ROC Government take a dim view of GCs who undertake in such actions.
