did you have a hire car or your father in laws? dont send them ur licence from england. youre a bit vague on how it came about. can ur in law pay the fine? when we hired, we payed extra than usual, because of speed camras, as i think theyd deal with it.

make sure if you have a car shared with family, the named driver is the one chased for fines, one of our owners recently returned and was stopped at the airport and handed a form that told him to report to Kyrenia poice station within 24 hours to pay a fine or it would be increased substantially. On arrival 3 offences were logged and the fines were 690 YTL. A his children were also driving it is impossible to guess who mad ethe offence. The moral of the story is hire it in someone else's name if you can.

Be aware that if you have an outstanding speeding fine, you will be stopped from leaving the TRNC. You will be told to go the police station to pay the fine. This is even though you will miss your flight, you can't pay at the airport. Another thing to remember is that the spped limit is up to whatever, you don't get any leaway as you do in UK i.e. 10%. So you are fined for doing say 50 in a 50 limit.

Do not pay. Opt to go to court I am told that they then change the charge from sppeding to dangerous driving . This they can not prove from a photograph showing you going a few kms over the limit. There is a t/c gent frquents the forums with a stack of tickets waiting for his day in court but no summonses have been forthcoming.

Hi goofyfunk, I wouldn't just call that speeding but dangerous and absolutely reckless, with no thought to fellow road users or pedestrians. You need banning not just fineing in my opinion, I hope you learn your lesson before you either kill or maim someone. The butlers wife

Nigel, Now I have a collection of six tickets with 25 points for each one, that makes 150 points in total. My firsst ticket arrived in February 2008 and no sign of any summonses yet. I have never paid and never been stopped at Ercan or the crossing points. My understanding is that you will be stopped if the ticket or presumably the summons later on cannot be served on you or someone in your place. In one instant my mother-in-law who happened to be in our house receved the ticket and she even signed to the effect that I accepted the guilt! That was another opportunity for some fun at the police staion. To cut long story short, a near relative can sign and get the ticket on your behalf but strictly speaking he cannot accept the quilt on your behalf. They may turn a blind eye on this if he can supply the police your driving licence and they register the points. Alternatively he can say that he was driving at the time and get the points on his own licence. Only yesterday I was driving from Nicosia to Famagusta with my wife in her car and I think there is a ticket on the way. She will say that I was driving and I will confirm but I will deny that I exceeded the speed limit. I bet they will not know what to do!! ismet

goofy funk you should be ashamed of yourself , you are a danger to all other road users . You should not be fined but banned . There is enough bad drivers in the trnc without us having to import them from the Uk.

Hi breezeboy, I don't care if goofyfunk was driving on an open road at 53 miles an hour or not. By his own admission he said he was doing 86kms in a 60kms zone. That is breaking the law and he should be penalised, my husband has only ever had one speeding fine and he was doing 36 miles an hour in a 30 mile zone he got 3 points on his licence and a £60.00 fine. I have been driving for over 40 years and never had a speeding fine or an accident and no I wasn't the lady you saw out on your Sunday drive. My driving record is unblemished because I drive within the law and am not reckless to other road users. The butlers wife

| RE message 17. I agree. I received a speeding ticket 2 weeks ago for driving 53 mph in a 40 mph limit. It was on an open stretch of road with little traffic and I was late for an appointment. However, I broke the law, got a £60.00 fine and 3 points on my licence. My fault - no-one else's. I consoled myself with the fact that it was my first (and my last) speeding fine in over 40 years of driving. As redtom rightly said, there are enough terrible drivers in TRNC without importing more! | Butlers wife. We both know that particularly in TRNC there are many areas with speed limits which are unecessary as in the UK it promotes governmebt income. With modern vehicles you can very safely exceed some of these limits. I have a modern car and a 32 year old car which have totally different characteristics and are threfore driven accotrdingly. Likewise I would never drive faster than 20mph near a school but the law in some speed limit cases is an ass both ways. The bad drivers in trnc are down to bad teaching and poor tests as posts here have shown. Find out what proportion of major accidents contain the ingredients, 17 - 25 yeras old, TC, alcohol and Friday or Saturday 11.00pm to 3.00am By the way goofyfunk could be banned but he doesnt even know who was driving let alone where. The maximum limit in TRNC can be tedious in many areas now there are a few good roads. |
